Initial study data suggest the pilot contributed to a reduction in landfilled waste, even as overall park waste increased and Grand Teton National Park experienced rising visitation. Despite the increased number of visitors, the recycling pilot was associated with a 15% increase in waste being recycled or composted, alongside a decrease in waste going to the landfill.

The campground where the recycling station was installed, Colter Bay Village, also saw significantly greater reductions in landfill waste than other campgrounds in Teton Park, more than six times greater reduction than a comparison site in the park. Jackson Hole recycles ... MATTRESSES! Each year, Teton County ISWR sends dozens of mattresses to in Salt Lake for recycling, reuse and deconstruction for repurposing of the materials. Best yet, the program helps provide jobs and support for those in need.

Mattresses are collected at the Teton County Trash Transfer Station. Call (307) 733-S.O.R.T. for details and fee info.

The Teton County Trash Transfer Station and Recycling Center will be closed Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

The Trash Transfer Station staff will reopen for their usual weekend hours on Saturday, June 20, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Reuse just got a little easier to recognize.

An international coalition, "PR3: The Global Alliance to Advance Reuse," has introduced a new global symbol to help people recognize reusable packaging and reuse systems around the world.

You may start seeing this symbol at events, on returnable food and drink containers, near collection bins, or on signage that helps explain what to return and where.

The symbol can be applied to reuse systems (reusable packaging, labels, and infrastructure) and promotional material that meet specific criteria. This ensures the symbol is only applied to systems that truly reuse. If you meet the criteria we invite you to incorporate it into your reuse systems — you can download the symbol, review the design guide, and deep dive into the usage criteria here:

SMARTER THAN THE AVERAGE BIN: 🐻♻️ We spied these shiny new bear-resistant recycling bins recently at String Lake in Grand Teton National Park.

Yogi and Boo-Boo may love a good “pic-a-nic basket” but real bears are better off sticking to berries, bugs and being wild. Thanks for recycling!

Can a simple swap to reusable bags really make a difference? Since Jackson Hole ditched plastic bags in 2019, volunteers and public works teams have seen a remarkable decline in roadside and park trash. By bringing your reusable bag, you're part of a movement that's keeping Jackson Hole wild and beautiful.

Due to dust control work, Community Recycling bins will be temporarily moved to the North side of the parking lot by Flat Creek Drive and W. Karns Ave. beginning Wednesday, June 10th until approximately Friday, June 12th.

🚧 FAIRGROUNDS PARKING LOT NOTICE 🚧

Just a heads up—we'll be treating the fairgrounds parking lots for dust control on June 8 and June 11.

If possible, we'd really appreciate it if folks could avoid driving through the parking lots on those days. The magnesium chloride treatment does a great job of keeping dust down, but it can be tough on vehicles, and we'd rather help you avoid the mess and potential wear.

We're doing this work to improve conditions around the fairgrounds and appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation while we get it done.
