t the early age of 40, the homes and buildings he designed are still coveted and revered for their traditional style and classic details, and many are now on the National Historic Register. Since 2014 the City of Jackson has cleaned up the grounds, placed a sump pump in the cellar beneath the building, and recently placed a new roof on the entire structure. Mayor Kay Pippin and the City Councilors have committed thus far to save the building, and now it is time to involve the community in this important restoration project. The City Council approved the creation of the Friends of the Hawkes Library Building, a committee composed of citizens who will undertake the task of planning the remaining restoration work, organizing fund raising efforts to pay for the restoration, and orchestrating the restoration of the Hawkes Building.
