SIX FLAGS GREAT ADVENTURE IS UNION BUSTING PUTTING THE PUBLICS SAFETY AT RISK
Today at approximately 10:30AM, our 2 fulltime firefighters, Captain Matthew Jordan and FF/EMT Rob Simonelli were terminated from their positions with the Six Flags Fire Department and escorted by Six Flags Security off property. The cited reason for their termination were “changes in the company”.
What kind of changes are they referring to? Record breaking attendance at the Great Adventure Property during the 2021 season? Increased development of the property over the next 3 years such as the newly planned hotel and campground or maybe the increased call volume shared by both Fire and EMS shared this season?
The Six Flags Fire Department has been in existence since 1973 serving the guests and employees of the complex and have been credited with saving the lives of numerous individuals. Just this year, FF/EMT Simonelli was credited with the CPR save of one of our guests. This is the second time in their history that the department has been attacked with layoffs. In 2011, corporate choose to completely disband the SFFD as a cost saving measure. This was quickly reversed when it was realized how dangerous a lack of fire suppression for the property was.
As of right now, the SFFD remains in operation with limited part-time staffing. These members of the department have other full-time jobs in the area. This will not guarantee coverage on our busy nights, such as “Fright Fest” and ongoing event “Holiday in the Park”. Thereby putting YOU our guests and employees at risk.
For comparison, our nearest mutual aid Fire Department, is the Cassville Fire Company with their firehouse approximately 15 minutes away from our park. 15 Minutes? Shall we remind our leadership of the death of 8 teenagers on our property due to a lack of proper fire response at the Haunted House Fire? 15 minutes is a rather long time to wait for a property with the capacity to hold over 50,000 people just in our theme park don’t you think?
This is heartless, despicable, act of union busting from our corporate leadership just prior to the holiday season. We hope that this will change.
