The Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards recognize outstanding youth and adult volunteers who are making a lasting impact through service and volunteerism right here in TN.

Meet Your Financial Empowerment Counselor 👋🏼

For Cyntressia, one of the most rewarding moments as a counselor is helping clients realize how achievable their financial goals are.

“Seeing the light bulb go off in my clients’ eyes once they realize they can — or have — reached the financial goal they’ve set for themselves. The joy and excitement on their faces are indescribable.”

And here’s one financial myth she wishes more people knew: Closing an old credit card account doesn’t necessarily improve your credit score — in fact, it can sometimes lower it.

Outside of helping clients reach their financial goals, Cyntressia enjoys strength training. And something you might not guess? She didn’t go to school for finance, but she’s been working in the field for almost 15 years.

This Day, take a moment to thank the people who keep West TN moving. đź’™

The grocery store worker stocking the shelves.
The bank teller helping with your deposit.
The child care worker caring for little ones.
The restaurant server bringing your meal.
The home health aide caring for a loved one.
The retail worker helping you find what you need.

Many of the people we depend on every day are — working hard, serving our communities, and still struggling to afford the basics.

So as we celebrate the contributions of workers this Labor Day, let’s make it personal.

Thank a worker. Show kindness. Recognize the people whose work makes our everyday lives possible.
