Congratulations KRMC!

Kentucky River Medical Center (KRMC) has been named a 2026 Best of Kentucky Regional Award winner, recognizing the hospital’s continued role as a critical health care provider for Jackson, Breathitt County, and surrounding communities.

KRMC’s services include a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care facilities, a full-service laboratory, physical therapy, radiology, cardiopulmonary services, occupational therapy, speech therapy, swing beds and surgical services. Behind those departments is a team of members of the medical staff, nurses, technicians, and support staff focused on care that is accessible, compassionate, and rooted in the needs of the people they serve.

“This recognition reflects what our team shows up to do every day — serve families, strengthen community health, and keep essential care close to home,” said Susie Morgan, RN, MSN, Chief Executive Officer, Kentucky River Medical Center. “In a region where dependable local health care is a necessity, that work matters deeply, and this honor belongs to the people who make it possible.”

Thank you to those who nominated and voted for KRMC to be selected as a 2026 Best of Kentucky Regional Award winner.

Little Librarians Program Begins Friday

The Breathitt County Public Library announced on Wednesday the start of a new program for the Summer of 2026.

The Little Librarians program will begin taking applications on Friday, June 12, for anyone ten and under who would like to learn more about the library and our community.

The Little Librarians Program will allow Breathitt County residents to volunteer for an hour at the Breathitt County Public Library to learn about the library's services and its role in the community.
Applicants will shelve books, talk to patrons, assist with programming, tour the Heritage Center, and perform other activities.

Librarians will receive special recognition, have their photo posted on the library's social media pages (if they choose), and receive special gifts for their service.

Stop by the library beginning Friday to pick up an application to participate or to learn more about the new program.
