Lucy has a lot on her plate right now. Unfortunately, we’re trying to put a little less on it.

At 10 years old, Lucy recently found herself at Teton County Animal Shelter after her elderly owner passed away.

Despite such a big change, Lucy loves attention, is still playful, and has taken a liking to carrying around her little mouse.

Lucy is working on her summer figure a little late. She’s taking it pretty well, although she does have one boundary: when she is eating, Lucy would prefer not to be interrupted. No pets, please.

For now, Lucy is settling in, getting lots of love, and keeping her emotional-support mouse close by.

It took a community to get Moxie home.

Earlier last month, Moxie and her family were involved in a serious car accident on the pass. Moxie was thrown from the vehicle and ran into the woods.

That night, our community helped spread Moxie’s picture across Facebook in hopes that someone would spot her.

The next day, Moxie did something pretty incredible: she returned to the scene of the accident looking for her family.

Someone from town recognized her from the posts on Facebook and brought her safely to Teton County Animal Shelter. With Moxie’s family still recovering in the hospital, she had a safe place to stay until they could be reunited.

But one of the firefighters who responded to the original accident wasn’t finished looking out for her.

Jackson Hole Firefighter Captain Chris Betsinger came to the shelter to check on Moxie and, with her family’s permission, took her with him to care for her while they recovered. Instead of spending her nights alone at the shelter, she got to stay in a home.

Moxie’s story also highlights a quiet side of what Teton County Animal Shelter does that many people may not know about. In addition to lost and stray animals, we regularly take in pets whose owners have been hospitalized or taken into custody with no one available to care for their animals.

But this particular story belongs to the community.

To everyone who shared Moxie’s picture, to the person who recognized her and brought her to us, and especially to Chris for continuing to look after her long after the emergency call was over: thank you.

Moxie is now back home with her recovering family.

Sometimes it really does take a village.

In need of something sweet?

Meet Oreo!

Oreo is so sweet that we have to recruit someone cuddle him just to take his picture because he will run up to the cameraman for love.

He was living at a rest stop, doing his best to make friends and win over travelers with his big green eyes.

He is about a year and a half old, loves to talk, comes when he is called, and wants to be on your lap.

Oreo is available for adoption at Teton County Animal Shelter.

Remember these two?

Rambo and Rocky's "mugshot" made quite the impression when they arrived at Teton County Animal Shelter. At the time, we were convinced someone had to be looking for them.

It's now been 15 days.

We followed every lead we could. Rocky had a microchip, but when we contacted the number associated with it, we were told he wasn't their dog. We've searched, asked around, and waited for someone to recognize them, but we've reached a dead end.

At this point, we have to consider the possibility that Rambo and Rocky may have been left behind.

The good news? These two haven't spent the last 15 days worrying about it nearly as much as we have.

They have each other.

Rambo and Rocky are partners in crime. Wherever one goes, the other is usually not far behind. They're goofy, affectionate, and it has been a party since the day they arrived.

Only now, instead of looking for where they came from, we're ready to start looking for where they go next.

Rambo and Rocky are ready for their next adventure. They just need someone to bail them out and go on it with them.

These two girls were caught loitering around backyards in East Jackson with no supervision.

Keeping shelter dogs happy means more than just walks. Today we cooled everyone off with homemade pumpkin popsicles and a pool party!

Rocco politely declined his popsicle and decided that playing in the pool is more important.

What about your dog? Are they Team Pumpkin or would they rather jump straight into the pool?
