From WYDOT Teton County: WYDOT will be installing upgraded signage on Teton Pass, beginning Monday, Sept. 21. The work will take place during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for three days. Drivers will see lane closures, flagger-controlled traffic, and possible short delays.

Additional retrofitted signs that warn motorists “sharp curves”, “steep grades” and “stay in low gear” will be upgraded to say “All Vehicles” rather than “Truckers”. The new signs are currently under review by WYDOT and will be installed as each is fabricated and delivered. That work is also anticipated to take place the week of Monday, Sept. 21.
WYDOT is also in the process of creating diagrammatic map signs, with “You are here” that will illustrate roadway grades and other restrictions, and the alternate route through Swan Valley, similar to signs on US 16 and US14A. These diagrammatic map signs are currently being designed with the intent to install them at the scale house, the state line and at the turnout at the summit.
“We have about 50 signs from the state line to Wilson informing drivers of steep grades and to use low gear. WYDOT is currently working on reviewing the rest of the signs and their placement,” said Darin Kaufman, District 3 Traffic Engineer.

Drivers can do their part in making Teton Pass safer by wearing a seat belt, slowing down and obeying posted speeds, using a lower gear when descending steep grades, and putting down their phone and paying attention to their surroundings.

Teton Interagency Fire managers have lifted Stage 1 fire restrictions for Grand Teton National Park, the Bridger-Teton National Forest, and the National Elk Refuge. Recent precipitation, cooler temperatures, and higher relative humidities have lessened the threat of wildfire. All public land users are advised to remain vigilant and use caution when building and maintaining a campfire to prevent unwanted human-caused fires.

While Stage 1 fire restrictions have been lifted, in Grand Teton National Park campfires are only ever allowed in designated metal fire grates. Campfires are never allowed on the National Elk Refuge. In areas where campfires are allowed, it is illegal to leave them unattended or abandoned. So far this year, Teton Interagency personnel have extinguished 99 unattended and abandoned campfires. Unattended and abandoned campfires can quickly escalate into wildfires, and if your campfire sparks a wildfire, you can be held responsible for the cost of putting it out.

In recent weeks, Teton Interagency firefighters have promptly responded to and put out several lightning-caused fires. Based on these successful efforts and other factors, fire managers have determined it is appropriate to lift fire restrictions. These factors include the moisture content of fuels (how dry grasses, shrubs and trees are); projected weather conditions (including temperatures and possible wind events); the availability of firefighting resources nationwide; and the occurrence of human-caused fires.

How to prevent human-caused fires:
The safest option is to not build a campfire at all. Dress warmly and use layers instead of relying on a campfire for warmth. If you choose to have a campfire where it’s allowed, have a plan for putting it out before ever lighting it, and:
• Select your campfire location carefully, free from overhanging trees and clear of grass and brush. When in dispersed camping areas in the Forest, only use pre-existing campfire rings, do not create new rings.
• Keep your campfire small and under control.
• Campfires should be avoided on windy days.
• Never leave a campfire unattended or abandoned.
• Have a shovel and water bucket on hand.
• Use several gallons of water to fully extinguish your campfire.
• Drown, stir, feel and repeat until the ashes are cold to the touch.
• Break up charred logs and cover all remains with dirt.

April Norton, Director of the Jackson Teton County Affordable Housing Department, has announced her resignation from her joint Town and County position, with her last day being towards the end of the calendar year. Please see the attached press release for more information.

April has played a pivotal role in shaping local housing solutions since beginning her tenure in July 2016, including:

Completed 8 public-private partnership developments that created 241 homes – 189 Affordable and 52 Workforce – providing safe, stable housing to more than 675 people.

Led the initiative to create a Compliance Division to oversee stewardship of existing and new homes. In 2025, the compliance rate was 97% and included about 1,000 homes.

Spearheaded the Housing Preservation Program to help locals attain homeownership while preserving existing homes and community character.

Launched the Supportive Housing Program to create housing opportunities for seniors and disabled community members. This includes the Accessible Home Improvement loan program funded by the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole.

Represented Teton County and Wyoming on the National Association of County Officials Workforce Housing Taskforce.

WYDOT electrical crews will be installing new, upgraded signal heads at the intersection of South Park Loop Road and Broadway Avenue, near the Maverick gas station beginning the evening of Monday, August 24th.

Crews will begin work Monday night at 10 p.m. and work until 6 a.m. to avoid commuter hours. During the work, signals will be flash mode, and traffic impacts should be minimal. The work is scheduled to last two nights, but crews are hoping to finish the installation on Monday night.

Nighttime drivers are asked to watch for roadside workers and obey all traffic control signs and devices. When traffic signals are in flash mode, drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Two Vehicle Crash in Teton Pass Results in Serious Injury to Juvenile

[Cheyenne, WY] — August 18, 2026

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred on WY 22 (Teton Pass) the evening of August 17, which resulted in a juvenile being air lifted and the pass being closed for several hours.

At approximately 9:00 PM, WHP was alerted to a multiple vehicle crash in the pass. Initial reports from calls into dispatch described a large crash involving five vehicles including a commercial tanker. Initial reports also included a gas spill requiring a HAZMAT event, people trapped in their vehicles and multiple injuries.

However, when troopers arrived, they found this was not the case. Troopers determined the incident involved only two vehicles - a passenger vehicle and a Recreational Vehicle (RV) pulling a trailer. There was a small gas spill that did not require a HAZMAT event. However, a juvenile occupant of the motorhome was airlifted with serious injuries.

This is an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
