The Mississippi Department of Education's (MDE) 2026-27 coaching work is underway as nearly 80 educators who are either MDE math coaches, Adolescent Literacy coaches or individuals in the Literacy Coach Academy of Mississippi, gathered in Jackson for training on Sept. 15. The ongoing sessions prepare the coaches to support other educators across the state.

Through Senate Bill 2294, Mississippi is investing in Adolescent Literacy and Math coaches who help strengthen instruction and support student success.

MDE has released the 2025-26 Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) results, which showed continued growth in science, stable performance in English Language Arts (ELA) and a slight decline in mathematics proficiency.

The percentages of students scoring proficient or advanced in 2025-26 are 47.5% in ELA, 53.9% in mathematics and 64.1% in science. See complete results at mdek12.org/communications/category/news/.
