I have been sitting here struggling on how to put this into words. I received word last evening that one of our YB family members, Kadiedra Goodwin has tragically passed away.

Kadiedra was a leader that could be counted on when needed. She was intelligent, charismatic, tough, and could change the mood of a room with just her smile. Kadiedra was just awesome.

My condolences to the family she has left behind. You will be in mine & YouthBuild's thoughts & prayers.

Dear Friends:

This weekend the Discovery channel and OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network will air “Rise: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper,” a new documentary that features powerful stories of organizations and people engaged in MBK work around the country.

The film will be especially meaningful to everyone involved in any way with the work of YouthBuild, as it features Johnny Herber, a YouthBuild graduate from the Yuba-Sutter Habitat YouthBuild program in rural northern California. In addition, the film overall captures well the YouthBuild perspective. • You can watch the film will on Facebook starting today through Sunday, June 21st at 4 p.m. ET. (Go to the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance page for the video link and please note, you have to be logged into Facebook to watch this video.)

• The film will be live on the OWN and Discovery channels on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21st at 7 p.m. ET.

2014 GED Testing

T. A. Wilson Academy is now administering the revised GED Test for 2014. Youmust pre-register on-line at ged.com before testing. ALL tests taken prior to January 1, 2014 are no longer valid.

Things you will need to pre-register:

• Must have a valid e-mail address (if you need one go to gmail.com or yahoo.com to sign-up for an e-mail account).

• Credit or Debit card for payment of testing fee.

• Testing fee: $37.50 per test (there are four tests, Language Arts, Math, Science & Social Studies).

• Testing Schedule: Mondays 12:30 – 6:00 pm & Wednesdays 8:30 – 2:00 pm through December 17, 2014

Note: Please read ALL rules and regulations when registering.

Tax time is here! CAA is providing FREE tax preparation for households with incomes at or below $52,000. Returns are electronically filed for a quick turnaround.

Couple of reminders:

January starts a new quarter - if you have been out of the program less than a year, if you provide proof of employment or college/training you are eligible for some $$$.

Second, CAA will be sending out tax information to the last address we have for you this month. If you have moved, please make sure to let Mr. B know ASAP. Message him on here or at CAA's main office 1214 Greenwood Ave., 517-784-4800.

Don't forget, the GED test changes this next year. If you have started testing, you need to finish by the end of the year or you will have to retake all of the tests!

$$$ Reminder $$$

If you have been out of the program for less than a year, you are eligible for $25.00 for having a job (even for one day) or going to college/training for each quarter.

If you began college or worked at least one day during September (end of quarter) and are still working or going to school this month October (beginning of new quarter) you are eleigible for $50.00

Send Mr. B a picture of your check stubs, or a letter from a person hiring you, or college documents via email, Facebook, text msg or bring in to CAA's main office on Greenwood Ave. Checks would be available to pick up Friday mornings or can be mailed.
