Jackson Hole Working

Jackson Hole Working We are open to new ideas and want to work together with others and community groups to bring about balanced, fair solutions for our valley and its citizens.

Jackson Hole Working is a community-driven movement that values the vibrant heart of downtown, a workforce housing market driven by the private sector, the protection of private property rights and the preservation of open spaces and wildlife corridors. We are long-term residents and recent arrivals, members of the agricultural community and small businesses, entrepreneurs and open space advocates

who seek to be a voice included in shaping our valley’s future. We advocate for:
• Jackson Hole smartly moving forward into its future, instead of stepping backward with the policies that have been failures in solving problems and issues over the last 20 years. For example, that we don’t group local mom and pop small business into the same attack as a Marriot hotel. That we value our local community commercial instead of attacking it negatively.

• A comprehensive vision for our community … one that looks holistically at the challenges and opportunities our valley faces – and solves those problems with logical action, not just reaction.

• The vision developed by, and for, our community in the 2012 Jackson/Teton County Comprehensive Plan – a five-year effort that encompasses thoughtful input from across the community including key stakeholders in housing, business, non-profit, education, transportation and conservation.

• A high quality of life for local citizens that doesn’t involve long lines, stifling the ability of new start-up businesses, long waits just to get coffee in the morning, or lunch on the go, a 45-minute commute to work or a two-year-plus long wait for childcare.

• The private sector being allowed to build employee housing ON-SITE on commercial properties, rather than entirely shifting the burden of workforce housing to the public sector and taxpayers.

The Teton Mobility Corridor Improvements (TMCI) will implement a series of multimodal improvements along the ID-33/WY-22 corridor between Driggs, ID and Jackson, WY, connecting residents and visitors to many of the region’s economic generators.

Housing experts often talk about the missing middle — a lack of investment in buildings that have more units than a single-family home but are less dense than midrise apartments. Townhouses, garden apartments, duplexes and triplexes fell out of favor after World War II, in part because of restrictive zoning laws imposed by local governments, many of which were looking to keep out poor people and minorities.

Cities are experimenting with a promising tool for addressing a critical shortage of housing for older Americans.

JH Working does NOT want deregulation; we talked about removing barriers for the private sector to be part of the solution to getting housing for the workforce built. And how important a community's small businesses are to its vitality and economy.

You don’t have to agree with the private sector being part of the solution or creating an environment where small businesses can thrive, but IF you want that, you have to develop policies that encourage that.

Build more, build faster and get government out of the way.

It's been hectic day for roadways in Jackson Hole. All lanes have been shutdown on US89 between Alpine Jct and Jackson due to a crash, according to WYDOT.

North US89 between Jackson and the airport has opened again following a closure this morning for avalanche mitigation. But airport officials say parking lots are full right now. You can call 307-413-1516 for updates and assistance.

WYDOT also reports several Jackson Hole roads and the Teton Pass remain slick with black ice and drivers are advised to use caution.

The sun did peak out over Snow King for a bit around noon, but has gone back in hiding for a bit.

From board member John Stennis: As a co-author of a recent guest shot in the Jackson Hole News & Guide, I am passionately advocating for more consistent and effective government support for affordable housing initiatives in our community. Providing affordable housing is not only a moral imperative, but also essential for the economic and social vitality of our region. We need our local government to show strong leadership and commit to long-term solutions that ensure access to safe and affordable housing for all our residents.

The right place. Paid for entirely by the private sector. Nearly 200 units of housing are designed to be for members of our workforce. Meets all land development regulations and
