A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a volunteer, mentor & role model who works with children

The Amador Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program is part of a national program that recruits and trains volunteers to become advocates for children who are in custody of the courts in Amador County. Advocates are a special kind of mentor and role model that helps the child navigate the complexities of the court. The CASA also helps the court find information about the child in order to

make decisions in the child's best interest. Amador CASA is a program of Nexus Youth and Family Services.

IN MEMORY OF ROSALIE:

We were able to celebrate many individuals who were CASA volunteers at our annual California CASA Association Conference.

We lost an advocate this last July, Rosalie. (in the pink shirt). Rosalie served over seven children in Amador County as a CASA volunteer.

As a former teacher, she fiercely advocated for children's access to education.

She was amazing at attending the sporting events of the kids she served and was very dedicated.

We hope she inspired others to volunteer as a few of the children she was serving are on the waiting list for another CASA volunteer.

One person. One relationship. One lasting impact.

When Keri Nicholson heard a story about someone
giving back to a stranger, she knew she wanted to
do more for others. That moment led her to CASA,
where she found a way to advocate for children in
foster care while building a meaningful connection
with a young person who needed a consistent
adult in their corner.

Today, Keri continues that mission as both a CASA
volunteer advocate and a member of the CASA OC
team, helping others discover their own path to
advocacy.

Her story is a reminder that every child deserves
someone who will listen, understand, and show up.

To a youth experiencing the instability of foster
care, a text message or a weekend visit isn't just a
check-in, it's proof that someone has their back.
80% of our advocates connect with their youth at
least 2–3 times a month, 30% check in weekly, and
10% are there multiple times a week.

These aren't just statistics. They represent real
moments of connection, guidance, and a shared
belief in a young person's future.
