National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. This week serves as a time to honor the men and women in law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice, while also recognizing the dedication and service of those across the nation who continue to protect and serve their communities each day.
Choosing a career in law enforcement is more than simply taking a job — it is answering a calling to serve others, often placing the needs and safety of complete strangers before your own. It takes a special kind of person to carry the responsibility, sacrifice, and pressure that come with wearing the badge. The willingness to continue showing up each day despite the challenges and uncertainties speaks volumes about the character, courage, and heart of those who choose this profession.
Sheriff Tedd Frazier and the staff of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who wear the badge. We know the job is not easy, and the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and their families often go unseen. Your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving your communities do not go unnoticed.
We are truly grateful for everything you do. Thank you for your service, your strength, and your unwavering commitment during National Police Week and every day throughout the year. 🖤💙🖤
