7:30 PM Update: The threat has now subsided.

If you are currently on or near Cave Run Lake (6:30 to 7:30 PM on 9/4/26), get away from the water and take shelter indoors or inside a vehicle! Strong winds are likely occuring with this storm, and lightning can strike out to 15 miles away from the parent thunderstorm. Do not be caught on the water!

The Heat Advisory has now been extended until 8 PM EDT Friday. Widespread high temperatures in the mid/upper 90s and widespread max heat indices between 100 and 107 degrees are in the forecast for today (9/3/26), with little in the way of improvement expected for Friday (9/4/26). The heat escalates in Eastern Kentucky tomorrow, with widespread heat indices between 102 and 107 degrees. So, a Heat Advisory has been issued for the entire forecast area.
