The Jackson Library and the City of Jackson's Public Works Day was a huge success! πŸŽ‰

It was so much fun seeing all the kids explore the vehicles, learn about public works and rescue vehicles, and enjoy a delicious ice cream treat. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the day such a memorable event for our community!

As we move into summer, more people are getting out on bicycles and hitting the road. Let's all do our part to keep our roads safe.

🚴 Cyclists: Check your equipment, wear a helmet, stay visible, and follow the rules of the road.

πŸš— Drivers: Share the road, check your blind spots, and give cyclists plenty of space when passing.

Working together helps everyone arrive safely at their destination.

This safety message is brought to you by the Co-Jack TZD Coalition.

Clay Welchlin is a Journeyman Lineman with Missouri River Energy Services and a member of the Jackson Electric Distribution Maintenance staff. In April, Welchlin had the opportunity to participate in the Light Up Navajo Project. The Project was started in 2019 as a joint effort between the American Public Power Association and the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority. The Navajo Nation is 27,000 square miles, roughly the size of West Virginia. Electric Line workers from over 40 utilities from across the nation are involved in the ongoing efforts to bring electric power to homes on the Navajo Reservation. It’s estimated about 10,000 families on the Navajo Nation are still living without electricity. Without the Light Up Navajo Project, it’s anticipated it would take about 60 years to connect everyone. Even with the Light Up Navajo Project, the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority estimates it will still take about 20 years to connect all homes on the reservation with power. In this first of a series of three interviews, Clay Welchlin talks about his experience in participating in the Light Up Navajo Project.
