This morning at 9:00 AM we had help from a couple of great volunteers for the annual American Battlefield Trust Park Day program. With their assistance, we cleared two areas of vegetation along the park road to help with visibility of the picnic area and the Fort Desperate parking lot. After completing those two areas, we then focused on cleaning up some of the outer trenches at Fort Desperate. Thanks to our volunteers!

We would like to give a huge thank you to the Zachary Church of Christ for assisting the site last Saturday as part of their community outreach mission. 26 church members participated in helping the staff give the picnic area a much-needed cleaning. What was accomplished in one day of hard work would've taken our small staff considerably longer to complete.
All of the picnic area sidewalks, both pavilion pads, and all 20 picnic tables and pads were pressure washed. All of the parking lot stripes in the picnic area parking lot were re-painted as well as the stripes in the cannon shelter parking lot and the Fort Desperate parking lot!
They did a great job, worked very hard, and we can't thank them enough. Please see the attached photos.

This Saturday, April 18th, our main picnic area will be closed for maintenance as the staff and volunteers from the Zachary Church of Christ pressure wash the picnic area sidewalks, all 20 picnic tables, and pads as well as re-paint the parking lot stripes.
Even though the picnic area will be closed, there are a few picnic tables located next to the museum and near the pond located by the museum parking lot.
The picnic area will be open and available the following day on Sunday. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
