Always grateful for the opportunity to spend time with our Soldiers serving on mission in Washington, D.C.

Last week, I had the privilege of visiting Soldiers assigned to the 890th Engineer Battalion, who are deployed as Mississippi National Guard Joint Task Force Magnolia in support of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission. These outstanding men and women are patrolling the National Mall and working alongside local and federal partners to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for the millions of visitors who come to our nation’s capital each year.

Joining me on this visit were Command Sgt. Maj. Shane Cook, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Donald R. Dukes.

I am incredibly proud of the professionalism, discipline, and dedication our Soldiers continue to demonstrate as they represent the great state of Mississippi. Their commitment to duty reflects the very best of our organization and serves as a reminder that the Mississippi National Guard is always ready to answer the call.
Thank you to each of these Soldiers for your service, sacrifice, and the pride you bring to our state and nation every day.

Before the day is over, on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, I want to personally recognize and thank the incredible spouses who stand beside our Soldiers and Airmen every single day. Your sacrifices are often unseen, but they are deeply felt across our force and throughout our communities.

Simply put, we could not do what we do without you.

I especially want to thank my wife, Vicki, for the countless sacrifices she has made throughout my career and for the steady love and support she continues to provide our family and the Mississippi National Guard community.

To every military spouse across Mississippi, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to those who wear the uniform. We are forever grateful for you.

I am proud of our Mississippi team for representing our state at the Wilson Small Arms Competition at The National Guard Professional Education Center (PEC), April 26–May 1. Competing against 52 teams from across the force and finishing 26th is no small feat, it reflects discipline, grit, and a commitment to mastering the fundamentals.

Congratulations to Sgt. Falgout, Sgt. Dean, Master Sgt. Reid, and Sgt. 1st Class Loague on a job well done. You’ve represented the Mississippi National Guard with professionalism and pride.

Yesterday, I joined fellow National Guard leaders from across the country in Washington, D.C., to meet with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to discuss the National Guard’s role in supporting the National Defense Strategy and strengthening our nation’s homeland defense.

During the meeting, we emphasized the Guard’s unique dual mission and the value our Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen bring to both state and federal operations. The discussion reinforced a shared commitment to a “homeland first” approach, ensuring the National Guard remains ready to respond to emergencies here at home while maintaining the capability to support combatant commanders worldwide.

The Mississippi National Guard demonstrates this mission every day. Whether responding to natural disasters, supporting civil authorities, or preparing for federal deployments, our Soldiers and Airmen remain ready, trained, and capable of answering the call whenever needed.

I am proud to represent Mississippi at the national level and to advocate for the resources, readiness, and support our service members require to accomplish their mission. The strength of our Guard comes from the dedication of our people and the continued support of our families, employers, and communities across our state.

Always Ready. Always There.

Cross Agency Collaboration 🇺🇸
Strengthening partnerships starts with conversation. Today, the leadership team from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) stopped by to discuss future opportunities to foster relationships and identify ways we can work together in support of Mississippi’s communities and shared missions. Mississippi State Parks play a vital role in conservation, outdoor recreation, and emergency preparedness, and they also provide outstanding environments to maintain physical health, resilience, and overall readiness through hiking, training, and outdoor activity.

Cross-agency collaboration remains critical to readiness, resource coordination, and long-term success across the state.
