On Tuesday, we strengthened our inmate litter pickup partnership between HCSO, the City of Jackson, MDOT and MDOC to keep our highways clean throughout Hinds County. I joined Mayor John Hohrn and Transportation Commissioner Willie Simmons for the $1 transfer of a pickup truck from the Commissioner’s office to HCSO, which will support this renewed cleanup effort.

A special thank‑you to MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain for his continued partnership and for allowing state inmates to participate in this important work program. Together, we look forward to reigniting this initiative and keeping Mississippi beautiful.

📢 The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy returns August 3-10!

We’re inviting residents from across Hinds County to join us for this year’s second Sheriff’s Citizens Academy—a hands‑on, behind‑the‑scenes look at how your Sheriff’s Office operates.

This one‑week course gives participants the chance to engage directly with our team, learn how the criminal justice system works, and see the daily responsibilities, challenges, and commitments of the HCSO.

Update: Johnny Dixon-25, was arrested and charged with murder stemming from last night’s fatal shooting on Pinehaven Dr. near Kickapoo Rd. The victim, only identified as a 37 year old black male, was fatally shot during an alleged altercation between he and the suspect inside of a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and pending notification of the next of kin, the victim’s identity will be released.

Homicide investigation: HCSO is on scene investigating a fatal shooting at Pinehaven Dr. near Kickapoo Rd. Male occupant fatally shot in a vehicle. Another male occupant is in custody as the alleged shooter. Identities not released at that time. Investigation is ongoing.

aka “Shantercia Donelson is in custody. She was captured moments ago by HCSO Deputies in a vehicle in the Woodlands Apartments. She faces additional escape charges. Thanks to all law enforcement agencies for the quick responses and bringing resources to assist with the search.
