On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Northampton County Sheriff's Office Deputy M. Downing Jr, Deputy M. Kellett and Deputy J. Johnson responded to a residence on Walnut Street in Woodland, NC for a call regarding a physical assault.
Upon deputies' arrival, it was determined that the physical assault was a domestic violence between a female and male whom used weapons to assault each other. The assaults occurred while minors were present at the residence. The female was identified as thirty-eight-year-old, Shanise Inesia Harris, of Woodland, NC. The male was identified as twenty-five-year-old, Tyrek Lashawn Bishop, of Woodland, NC.
Harris refused emergency medical treatment. Bishop was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputy M. Downing Jr arrested and charged Shanise Inesia Harris with one (1) count Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon and two (2) counts Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Minor Present. Harris did not receive a bond due to the 48-hour domestic violence hold and pre-trial integrity act. She was provided a scheduled court date of September 15, 2026, in Northampton County.
Deputy M. Downing Jr also obtained a warrant for arrest on Tyrek Lashawn Bishop with one (1) count Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon and two (2) counts Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Minor Present.
Later, Sergeant Z. McDuffie arrested Tyrek Lashawn Bishop on the outstanding warrant for arrest on the aforementioned charges. Bishop did not receive a bond due to the 48-hour domestic violence hold and pre-trial integrity act. He was provided a scheduled court date of September 15, 2026, in Northampton County.
Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith commended all the deputies on their efforts in this case and resolving it in a timely manner. Domestic violence cases involve ongoing danger, repeat victimization, and has a high escalation risk. Both Harris and Bishop will be held accountable in a court of law.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
