Vasil for Jackson City Council District 4

Vasil for Jackson City Council District 4 My name is Stephen Vasil and I am a candidate for Jackson City Council District 4.

11/21/2023

The Butts County Board Elections performed a recount earlier today. As expected, the results did not change from the original tally. Final results Cook 167 Vasil 166.

I want to thank everyone for their support, words of encouragement, and their time. Running for office has been an extremely rewarding process and I met numerous people who I now get to call friends.

The Butts County Board of Elections will conduct a recount later this week for the Jackson City Council race in District 4.

I feel like a recount will resolve any concern a voter may have about the election being accurate with a lone voting being the difference. Upon the completion of most recounts, the outcome usually doesn't change. However, once the recount is complete, there will be no doubt who the winner is. As of now, it looks like Councilman Cook has won re-election. But I feel it's important to have the recount so no one can question the legitimacy of the election.

To squash all the rumors, this is not about "stolen votes" or "switched ballots" or any sort of conspiracy. This election was fair for me and Councilman Cook.

Thank you

Stephen

As of today, Councilman Cook is leading 167-166. In most cases, there would be an automatic recount for a race this close. However, in Georgia, there are no automatic recounts in municipality races unless a candidate requests in writing that it occur. I fee a sense of duty to the people of Jackson to request a recount, and I will have this paperwork completed tomorrow.

I have not conceded this race, as it is not over yet. I will have more to share once I meet with the Butts County Board of Elections and the Georgia Secretary of State's office.

Thank you again for all the support.

Dear Neighbors,

TOMORROW is the final opportunity to make your voice heard by voting in the Jackson municipal elections. The polls close at 7 PM tomorrow.

I hope that I've earned your vote to represent you and District 4 on the Jackson City Council. I'm very proud of our campaign, and I've enjoyed every conversation we've had about how to make Jackson the best place to live and do business in middle Georgia.

TOMORROW, you have a choice. You can choose to make sure our citizens and businesses to have an ally or an adversary. You can choose to make sure our police department is adequately funded or struggles. You can choose to have someone stand up to multi-family housing developers looking to change the face of our city or rubber stamp them. You can choose to have someone working to get our burdensome ordinances under control or make things like the City of Atlanta. You can choose to rein in out of control spending or keep the free-spending status quo. You can choose to END all the special benefits our current city council members receive or keep those luxuries for a ruling elite. You can choose to have a city that meddles in and loses money on real estate dealings or stays in their lane.

These are the issues we've talked about at your homes, in your businesses, and around town that matter to the people of Jackson. I hope that I've shown you that I can and will lead on all of them.

I cannot and will not promise to be perfect, but I can promise to be a man of my word. I can also promise that you will always know where I stand on the issues. You can be sure that I'm the same person on Saturday night that I'm on Sunday morning. While I cannot control what my opponent says or does, I CAN control the way I conduct myself. I am pleased to have run an issues-based campaign, and I look forward to continuing to focus on the issues that matter to our neighbors, our friends, and our family.

I ask for your vote tomorrow to keep Jackson... Jackson.

If elected, I will lead the charge to get our spending under control. There are already too many hands in our pockets, and the people of Jackson shouldn't pay for runaway spending at the municipal level.

Public service should be, at most, a part-time job.

Did you know that from January 2018 to July 2023, the people of Jackson have paid over $344,000 ($62,545 a year) for special benefits to the members of the city council? These taxpayer-funded special benefits include retirement, health insurance, and life insurance like a full-time employee. This wasteful spending does not even include their yearly salary of $10,800!

Spending like this is wasteful and unacceptable, and the current city council needs to be held accountable.

One more full time police officer or 2 more part time officers could be funded if we weren't spending so wastefully, if the city council voted to end their sweetheart benefits deal!

Is it in the citizens’ best interest to pay for the bloated benefits for the city council when crime is on the rise in our town?

When elected, I will lead the fight to end the wasteful spending. Overcompensation is a problem that hasn't been addressed by the city council in all these years. If I am unable to convince the other city council members to help me stop this wastefulness, I will not participate in any of these sweetheart deals. I’m happy to end them and have the other council members' position on the record.

To serve on the city council, one should have a servant’s heart. I wonder how many of the current city council members would choose to run for re-election if this sweetheart deal was no longer in place.

Let’s not keep the status quo!
