04/28/2026

The Jackson County Department of Transportation works to keep county roads safe and passable for the traveling public. Residents can help by reporting road hazards when they see them.
What Should Be Reported?
Examples of road hazards include:
• Potholes
• Fallen trees or limbs in the road
• Missing or damaged signs
• Washouts or flooding over the road
• Large pavement failures
• Dangerous shoulder conditions
• Other safety concerns affecting travel

How to Report a Road Hazard
Residents can report a road hazard through Jackson County’s online reporting system:
Report a Road Hazard: https://www.mijackson.org/561/Report-a-Road-Hazard

The online form allows residents to identify the problem location, type of hazard and describe the concern. Residents may also contact JCDOT by phone at 517-788-4230.
Emergency Situations
If the road hazard creates an immediate emergency or presents a serious danger to motorists, residents should call 911.

Examples may include:
• A tree blocking the roadway
• Flooding over the road
• A missing stop sign
• A hazard that could cause immediate injury or damage

Information to Include When Reporting
When submitting a report, please provide as much detail as possible, including:
• The road name
• The nearest cross street or address
• Direction of travel, if helpful
• A description of the hazard
• A photo, if it can be taken safely
• Your contact information in case follow-up is needed. (Please do not stop in traffic or put yourself in danger to take a photo)

What Happens After a Report Is Submitted?
Once a hazard is reported, JCDOT staff review the concern and schedule a response based on the type of issue, severity, location, weather conditions, available resources, and other roadway priorities.
Not all hazards can be corrected immediately, but reporting the issue helps JCDOT identify problem areas and respond as efficiently as possible.

City, State, or County Road?
Not every road in Jackson County is maintained by JCDOT. Some roads are maintained by cities, villages, or the Michigan Department of Transportation. When in doubt, residents may contact JCDOT, and staff can help determine the appropriate agency.

To report safety or emergency situations, the Jackson County Department of Transportation can be reached 24/7.
