Airport Rd. Resurfacing Project

Blackman Charter Township, MI – The Jackson County Department of Transportation (JCDOT) would like to inform the public of upcoming lane closures on Airport Rd. between Argyle St. and County Farm Rd. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 13, 2026, and is anticipated to be completed by November 15, 2026.

During construction, Airport Rd. will remain open to through traffic; however, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures, delays, and occasional temporary closures as work progresses. Access to all businesses in the project area will be maintained throughout construction.

No posted detour routes will be provided. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, seek alternate routes when possible, and allow extra travel time.

April is child abuse prevention month. Join us in wearing blue and supporting our local organizations who work hard everyday to protect children. If you can, please feel free to join us on Thursday at noon. We will be at Austin Blair Park in Jackson for pinwheels in the park to support Jackson’s Counsel for the Prevention of Child Abuse. We are wearing our blue, are you?

We told our neighboring law enforcement agencies that one of our local coffee and doughnut attractions was offering freebies to all law enforcement officers this morning. Then we sat across the street running radar. It’s amazing how upset the detectives looked walking out with the big boxes of doughnuts they had to pay for. That was a good one 😂

On that note, April Foolery is afoot so we urge everyone to consider the date prior to calling police about their workplace and household pranks.

The Jackson County Fire Academy spent the day at Jimmies Towing completing extrication training. Students learned how to use the "Jaws of Life" as well as other life saving tools.

Instructors from the Blackman - Leoni DPS, Jackson Fire Department, and Impact Rescue - Holmatro assisted with the training.

Thank you to Jimmies Towing for providing the vehicles and to Impact Rescue for providing extra tools!

🚨ATTENTION: SPRING BREAK IS UPON US 🚨

Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone that local students will soon be released into the wild for Spring Break. Yes… all day. Every day. 😳

Parents:
Good luck. Stay strong. Hide your snacks now. We repeat—HIDE. YOUR. SNACKS.

Residents:
If you see large groups of teenagers suddenly appearing at gas stations, parks, or your favorite lunch spot at 11:00 AM on a Tuesday… no, school is not “out early.” This is normal Spring Break behavior. Please do not be alarmed.

Drivers:
Expect increased foot traffic, bikes, scooters, and the occasional kid who forgot how sidewalks work. Slow down and stay alert.

Students:
We know you’re excited, but remember:
• The speed limit is not a suggestion
• “My friend dared me” is not a legal defense
• And yes, we will notice if you try to fit 12 people in one car

Everyone:
Have fun, be safe, and make good choices, we’d much rather see you enjoying your break than meeting us professionally. 😎
