Bucks County Special Operations recently responded to assist Warwick Township Fire Company and Central Bucks EMS at a residential incident involving swimming pool chemicals.

Pool chemicals can become hazardous if they are mixed, contaminated, exposed to moisture, or stored improperly. Homeowners should always keep chemicals in their original containers, store them in a cool, dry location, and never mix different products together.

If you encounter leaking, smoking, or reacting pool chemicals, leave the area and contact 9-1-1. When it comes to pool chemicals, a little prevention goes a long way toward keeping your family and neighbors safe.

Special Operations was requested to respond to several incidents last week.

A truck/trailer combination was involved in a rollover traffic accident. The trailer carried a tank containing driveway sealant which leaked onto the roadway and into a nearby storm drain.

Team representatives provided technical assistance on the scene. Special Operations team members also worked with local responders, municipal representatives, the PA Department of Environmental Protection, and contractors to coordinate the clean-up effort.

Special Operations recently responded to assist with a large, uncontrolled propane leak after a contractor operating a skid steer struck a 1,000-gallon underground propane tank, damaging the valving.

The team accessed the tank and took measures to temporarily contain the leak, reducing the immediate hazard. A controlled flaring operation was then conducted to safely burn off propane, allowing the leak to be properly secured.

The emergency was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of local fire departments, law enforcement, private industry, and our Special Operations Team.

We appreciate the teamwork displayed by all agencies involved in bringing this emergency to a safe and successful resolution.

This week our team worked through hands-on train car dome operations and valve control. Team members also donned fully encapsulated chemical protective suits for a tour through a confidence building course.

The Bucks County Special Operations Team recently operated in support of local police, fire, & EMS at a potential hazardous materials incident. Our role is to assist the first responders by providing technical expertise, specialized equipment, monitoring capabilities, and operational guidance.

By advising on complex issues, identifying materials, recommending protective measures, and assisting with strategy development, we help ensure that the responders can do their jobs safely and with confidence.
