Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety

Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety The Santa Clara- Ivins (SCI) Public Safety page is designed to promote and deliver effective communication, unity, leadership and community involvement.

During June 2026, multiple public safety agencies from across the county will be participating in Active Attack Training, formerly known as Active Shooter Training.
As part of this training, non-encrypted radio channels will be used. If you hear radio traffic related to these exercises, please do not call the police to report an active threat and do not share the information on social media or through other communication channels as though it is a real incident.

This training is critical to helping officers and first responders prepare to locate and stop threats as quickly as possible, protect victims, coordinate with fire and EMS personnel, communicate effectively under pressure, and manage rapidly evolving, chaotic scenes. Because these incidents are unpredictable and can unfold within minutes, regular training is essential to ensuring a coordinated and effective response.

We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as agencies work together to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities.

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor and remember the law enforcement officers across our nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

During National Police Week, agencies from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their communities. Our own Chief Studley had the opportunity to attend the memorial events this week alongside law enforcement officers from across the nation.

We also recognize the families, friends, and fellow officers who continue to carry that loss each day. Their sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.

The Santa Clara–Ivins Police Department stands alongside agencies throughout Utah and the United States in honoring the courage, dedication, and selfless service of fallen officers.

‼️ SCAM ALERT ‼️

If you’ve received this “official looking” notice today, you’re not alone. We’ve seen it popping up a lot.

A good rule of thumb, if something pressures you to act immediately, scan a QR code, or pay right away, it’s a scam.

Courts don’t operate like this. We promise no judge is out here chasing you with a QR code.

Be smart. Don’t click it, don’t scan it, just delete it.

Nice try, scammers… but not today.

🐾💙 We’re grateful for our Animal Control team. Today we’re highlighting Leah Cook 💙🐾

Leah has been working with animals for roughly 8 years in a variety of environments. She started with Santa Clara–Ivins as a shelter technician about a year ago and quickly worked her way up to a full-time Animal Control Officer in November 2025.

For Leah, the best part of the job is easy…the animals, of course. But she’s also quick to point out that Animal Control is about much more than that. While many people think the job is all about playing with puppies and kittens, it actually involves wearing many hats, working with the public, handling a variety of calls, and yes… a LOT of cleaning. It’s rewarding work, but it definitely requires dedication (and a strong stomach at times!).

One of her favorite calls involved capturing two stray chickens. Something she didn’t expect to love as much as she did. After spending a few days at the shelter with them, she discovered they actually have pretty great personalities. She also says tortoises always make her laugh, calling them “silly little escape artists” that everyone loves to see.

Leah loves being part of a small community where she can build connections with both people and their pets. Seeing animals that were once in the shelter out in the community living their best lives is one of the most rewarding parts of her job.

She’s had a passion for helping animals since she was a kid and takes pride in being a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves. For Leah, any day spent with her coworkers and the animals is a good day.

Thank you, Leah, for your compassion, positivity, and the care you give to our community and its animals!

Today we recognize Administrative Professionals' Day and the dedicated individuals who keep our police department running with professionalism, precision, and compassion.

Behind every call for service and every investigation is a team working tirelessly managing records, coordinating communication, and ensuring operations run smoothly. They are often the first point of contact for the public, providing guidance, answering questions, and helping connect people to the resources they need. They also stand beside victims during difficult times, offering support, empathy, and direction through the challenges they face. At the same time, they handle critical responsibilities like carefully documenting, collecting, and preserving evidence work that is essential to building strong cases and seeking justice.

Their attention to detail, commitment to service, and ability to balance multiple critical responsibilities make a lasting impact on our department and our community every single day. While much of their work happens behind the scenes, it is absolutely essential to everything we do.

Today, we thank you for your hard work, dedication, and the vital role you play in keeping our community safe.

🐾💙 We’re grateful for our Animal Control team. Today we’re highlighting Kevin Hart 💙🐾

Kevin has been serving as an Animal Control Officer for the past 9.5 months, bringing with him years of prior law enforcement experience, including working as a K9 handler. His background and passion for working with animals make him a strong part of our Animal Control team.

One of the things Kevin enjoys most about the job is being part of a tight-knit unit that works together with a shared mindset and mission. As a specialized team, Animal Control Officers handle a wide variety of calls so patrol officers can stay focused on active policing, something Kevin takes pride in being a part of.

Animal Control is much more than responding to calls. From caring for animals at the shelter to enforcing city ordinances, assisting with adoptions, and investigating bite cases, Kevin knows firsthand just how demanding the job can be.

One of his most memorable moments involved a feral cat and a lesson learned the hard way. After confidently releasing the cat from its trap, Kevin quickly realized he may have acted a little too soon as the cat made it very clear it was not ready.

To make things even better, his supervisor happened to witness the entire situation from the next room… and found it pretty entertaining. Safe to say, it’s a moment he won’t forget.

Kevin enjoys the variety of calls, working with the public, and supporting patrol units but one of the most rewarding parts of the job is being there when animals and their owners need help the most. Whether it’s reuniting lost pets with their families or protecting animals in the community, he takes pride in making a difference.

Thank you, Kevin, for your dedication, experience, and the work you do to serve our community!

🐾💙 We’re grateful for our Animal Control team. Today we’re highlighting Mackenzie Reid 💙🐾

Mackenzie has been serving as the shelter Manager and Animal Control Officer for the past 6 years, and her passion for animals shows in everything she does.

One of her favorite parts of the job is helping animals find their forever homes and getting those happy updates after they’ve been adopted. She also loves being part of a small community where she can get to know both the people and their pets.

While some may think Animal Control is all about playing with cats and dogs all day… Mackenzie will be the first to tell you that’s definitely not the case! From responding to calls to caring for animals in need, the job takes dedication and heart.

One of her most memorable calls? Being dispatched to remove a rattlesnake...only to find out it was a porcelain snake placed as a prank. She’s also had the opportunity to work with some unique animals, including a baby falcon.

For Mackenzie, a “good day” means seeing long-term shelter animals finally go to loving homes and reuniting pets with their owners so they don’t have to experience shelter life.

Thank you, Mackenzie, for your compassion, dedication, and everything you do for our community and its animals!
