URGENT SAFETY ALERT: Hazardous Road Conditions Countywide

Due to the increasingly hazardous road conditions across the county, there have been numerous accidents and wrecks reported today. For your safety, we strongly advise against all non-essential travel. If you must travel due to an emergency, please exercise extreme caution. Drive slowly, maintain vigilant attention to the road, and avoid taking risks. If you have any doubts about reaching your destination safely, it is better not to attempt the drive.

Law enforcement, MDOT, and wrecker services, and are working tirelessly and are currently overwhelmed due to the numerous accidents. To ensure public safety, several roads have been closed due to impassability and mass accidents. These closures include, but are not limited to:

-Constitution Drive near B&B Concrete (Formerly Milligan's Ready Mix) in Iuka
-Ridge Road in Belmont
-Hwy 366 from Belmont to Red Bay
-Hwy 25 from Belmont to Fulton

If you are aware of any additional road closures not listed here, please inform us in the comments.

We urge you to prioritize your safety and well-being during this time. Stay informed, stay safe, and avoid unnecessary travel.

A hazardous winter storm is predicted for Northeast Mississippi. Officials report that the Tishomingo County Courthouse will be open for those in need of a warm place to stay due to power outages. Please remember that if you need immediate help, don't hesitate to contact the 911 office.

Did you know? Back in August, Peyton Cummings and the rest of the staff in the Chancery Clerk's office finished scanning in all of the weekly editions of the newspaper from 1977 to 2021 into a digital format so that anyone may view online. We can only imagine how much time and resources it must have taken and we thank the Chancery Clerk's office for doing this.

Drivers beware: A wreck involving a red Toyota Forerunner and a currently unidentified brown sedan has been reported on Highway 72 at the Pleasant Hill intersection.

The City of Iuka experienced a major water leak overnight. Water is back on, but residents will have low pressure and limited flow until the tanks fill back up. If you receive water through the city, you will be under a boil water notice for the next 72 hours.

The Town of Tishomingo is hosting a Town-Wide Thanksgiving Service on November 21st, 2023, at 6:30 PM at the Tishomingo Baptist Church.

The event will feature a special presentation for the Citizen of the Year and a performance by the Tishomingo Community Choir. Pastor Rusty Fair will lead prayers, and Pastor Scotty Young will deliver a meaningful message.

Everyone is invited to come out and hear God's word & enjoy a delicious meal!
