YMCA to Provide FREE Swim Lessons for Ages 0 - 12 through 2027

The YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County is proud to announce that it has been awarded $100,000 through the Alliance of New York State YMCAs via the New York State Department of Health to provide free swim lessons for children ages 6 months to 12 through August 2027. Funding will support participation on a first-come, first-served basis and is available until all grant funds have been exhausted.

This funding is part of a statewide initiative to expand access to water safety education and swimming instruction for children across New York State. Through the program, eligible children can participate in up to three multi-week swim lesson sessions, each lasting 6–8 weeks, providing access to 24 free swim lessons between June 2026 and August 2027.

Registration for free swim lessons will open for YMCA Family Members on June 16, 2026, Youth Members on June 19, 2026, and Non-Members on June 23, 2026. The first session of free swim lessons will begin the week of June 29, 2026. Registration will be limited to one group lesson per session in an effort to ensure access to as many children as possible.

The Ithaca Youth Bureau has exciting news! Starting June 1st, we will have a community food hub-a place for anyone to take the food they need to feed themselves and their family.
The free food cabinet and refrigerator are located in the IYB atrium and available to anyone during business hours. Please help us spread the word.
