Lake Sammamish State Park will be Washington’s signature park for protecting and celebrating urban natural areas, showcasing regionally significant wetlan

ds and wildlife habitat, while enriching the lives of visitors and providing a valued legacy to future generations.”

Goals

Valued Legacy: Lake Sammamish State Park will draw a large clientele of individuals, families and groups through the creation of a park that models and demonstrates sustainability and natural area restoration. Recreation: The park will provide a wide diversity of recreational experiences ranging from quiet and contemplative to highly interactive and organized. Education: Park development and operation will have passive and organized active learning components focused on the theme of preserving wildlife and the natural state of the land by reducing human impacts, celebrating the park’s history, and restoring areas that have been degraded. Access: The park will welcome and be accessible to people of all means to enjoy, enrich, and celebrate their lives. Economics: Park development and operation will create a dependable income stream including earned revenue, outside grant funding, and private donations that contribute to the park’s vision. Restoration/Stewardship: Natural areas - restored and enhanced to their optimal state - will interweave with developed areas to create passive and active opportunities for learning and enjoyment. The park will benefit from community partnerships to help protect and enhance its natural areas and wildlife habitat. Sustainability: Park development and operation will foster an exemplary architectural and landscape legacy, demonstrating leading edge sustainable design and deep respect for the natural environment. Community: The park will enhance the quality of life for regional visitors and park neighbors, providing high-quality recreation opportunities and natural areas while exceeding local and regional planning goals and regulations.

Thank you for helping us care for the orchard.

Thanks to our community’s generosity, FLSSP is well on its way to supporting City Fruit and Washington State Parks in caring for the historic apple and pear trees at Lake Sammamish State Park. We’ve raised more than $4,500, putting us just under 65% of our $7,500 goal.

Your support helps ensure these trees continue to thrive and remain a living piece of the park’s history.

There’s still time to contribute if you’d like to help us reach the finish line. Every gift supports the long‑term health of this special orchard.

Donate today to help sustain a bite of history at Lake Sammamish State Park.

Spotting local wildlife is always a treat, even if I'm definitely no bird expert!

I captured this incredible family moment at Lake Sammamish and did a little digging to identify them. I think this is a female Common Merganser leading her adorable line of ducklings—but for all the seasoned birders out there, can you confirm if I got the name right?

Here are a few cool facts I found out about them while researching:
⭐️They are "sawbills"—their long, narrow red beaks have serrated edges perfectly designed for catching slippery fish.
⭐️Look closely at the video... those ducklings love to hitchhike! It’s very common for the little ones to ride on their mom's back when they get tired of swimming.

Drop a comment below and let me know if my ID is spot on or if I need to update my bird-watching guide! 👇

Partner Spotlight!

Wicked Rae's is a mother-daughter-founded community arts organization that creates movement-based, sensory-rich experiences designed to help people reconnect with themselves, each other, and the natural world through creativity, laughter, and play.

Our partnership reflects a shared belief that healthy communities are built when people have opportunities to gather outdoors, explore, create, and form meaningful connections across generations.
Together, we help cultivate belonging, resilience, and wellbeing by combining the healing power of art, nature, and joyful community experiences that leave people feeling more connected than when they arrived.

Spring Walk n’ Wag: "The Recap"

Thank you for joining us at Walk n’ Wag on May 9. It was a wonderful day celebrating our pets and dogs, and our community.

A special thank you to Oakley with@wickedraessplatterstudio , who hand‑crocheted more than 80 dog hats in all sizes for this spring’s event. They brought so much joy to the day.

We’re also grateful to for bringing the puppies and sharing their mission during Puppy Yoga.

Thank you to all of our vendors, trainers, sponsors and demo partners for helping create an engaging, welcoming experience throughout the day. Your support adds so much energy and connection to Walk n’ Wag each year.

If you didn’t get a chance to join us, the Fall Walk n’ Wag will return in October - Stay tuned!
