It is always heartbreaking when a law enforcement officer loses their life in the line of duty. The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is saddened to hear about the tragic loss of two Virginia state troopers on August 12th in Charlottesville. Lieutenant Jay Cullen and Trooper-Pilot Berke Bates were on their way to respond to the riots when their helicopter crashed. Their sacrifice and bravery will never be forgotten. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to their families.

Our office works closely with law enforcement officers every day and we are immensely grateful for all that they do to protect our citizens. We have the utmost respect for all of the law enforcement officers that keep this great nation safe.
