ICYMI: We celebrated 100 years of the Village of Island Park!

Through every high and low, generations of families have woven themselves into the fabric of this incredible community.

Island Park has made its mark and for me, it will always be home.

The best is yet to come.

Honored to deliver remarks Sunday in the Village of East Rockaway at the opening of a powerful 9/11 exhibit created by Mr. Don Poland and his students—featuring decades of memories, relics, photographs and student reflections.

Began this 9/11 like I do each year—at Town Park Point Lookout.

As the sun rises, waves crash and birds chirp, I join thousands of my neighbors to fulfill our promise to .

Twenty-five years later, we continue to lose friends, colleagues and loved ones to 9/11-related illnesses.

We must remain vigilant. We must teach the next generation exactly what happened, who was responsible, why America was attacked, who the heroes were and what we must do together to make sure it never happens again.

In a world where some want to erase the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 from history, we are blessed to have educators who remain committed to living the promise to .

For 25 years, my friend Don Poland of East Rockaway School District has made the lessons of 9/11 part of his classroom—touching the hearts and minds of generations of students and ensuring they understand what happened that day, the lives we lost, and the heroes who answered the call.

Now, he’s sharing that work with our entire community.

Proud of you, DP. Looking forward to seeing everyone at this important exhibit.

The Village of Island Park is 100!

I was so thankful to join friends, neighbors and family as we opened the time capsule buried during America’s Bicentennial in 1976.

It was an emotional day filled with memories of the incredible Island Parkers whose hard work, resilience and strength built the Village we love.

We also buried a new time capsule, and I was honored to place a few meaningful items inside. I pray I’m here in 2076 to open it once again.
