🚌 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER 🛑

When a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and stop arm activated, drivers MUST STOP at least 10 feet away from the bus.

Do NOT pass the bus or proceed until:
• The red flashing lights are no longer activated.
• Children who exited the bus have reached a safe location.

Approaching an intersection? If a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing, you must stop at the intersection and remain stopped until the flashing red lights are no longer activated.

A police-issued violation carries a $250 fine (plus a $35 surcharge), 5 points on your driving record, and a 60-day license suspension.

Please slow down, pay attention, and help keep our children safe.

Just a friendly reminder school starts back August 26,2026. Please be mindful of school buses and follow the state laws you must stop for all school buses and pedestrians have the right away.
We hope everyone has a great 2026-2027 school year!

🚔 Community Safety Reminder 🚔

Reminder to all Irwin Borough residents take a few of these simple steps to help prevent vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles.

Before leaving your vehicle unattended, please remember to:
• 🔒 Always lock your vehicle.
• 💼 Remove all valuables from plain sight—or better yet, take them with you.
• 🔫 Never leave fi****ms inside your vehicle. Secure them properly inside your home whenever possible.
• 🔑 Never leave your key fob or keys inside your vehicle, even if it’s locked. Many modern vehicles can be stolen simply because the key fob was left inside.

Most vehicle break-ins are crimes of opportunity. Taking a few extra seconds to secure your vehicle can significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim.

If you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, don’t hesitate to contact our department by dialing 911.

📱🚔 PAUL MILLER’S LAW TAKES EFFECT TOMORROW 🚔📱

Beginning June 6, 2026, Pennsylvania’s Paul Miller’s Law moves from the warning phase to full enforcement. Drivers who are caught using a handheld mobile device while operating a vehicle can now face a citation and a $50 fine, plus court costs and fees.

Under this law, it is illegal to hold or use a handheld phone while driving—even when stopped at a red light, in traffic, or at a stop sign. Hands-free technology may still be used, and exceptions exist for emergency situations.

Paul Miller’s Law was enacted in memory of Paul Miller Jr., who was tragically killed by a distracted driver. The goal of this law is simple: save lives and reduce preventable crashes caused by distracted driving.

Before you put your vehicle in drive:
✅ Put your phone away
✅ Set your GPS before leaving
✅ Enable hands-free features
✅ Keep your focus on the road

No text, call, notification, or social media post is worth a life.

Help us keep our roads safe. Put the phone down and drive responsibly.

Hello Parents of Irwin Borough Children,
Our Police Department is taking a proactive approach to keeping our streets and children safe. Recently, we have increased patrols throughout our neighborhoods and surrounding areas to address a growing concern: juveniles operating e‑bikes and dirt bikes illegally on public roadways.
We are asking parents and guardians to please monitor where and how these vehicles are being used. Pennsylvania vehicle laws prohibit anyone under the age of 16 from operating a motorized vehicle on a roadway. For additional details about vehicle definitions and regulations, please search “PA Micro Mobility.”
Please also be aware that if a juvenile is arrested for illegally operating a motorized vehicle on a roadway, parents or guardians may be charged for permitting the violation. This is not an outcome we want for anyone. Our goal is simply to prevent serious crashes and protect our community before another tragedy occurs.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
