This Saturday, March 7, we’re hosting a Volunteer Day at the O’Hara Nature Center focused on projects in the Irvington Woods Park, and we’d love your help!
What we’ll be doing:
• Planting 1.5" caliper native trees as part of our active USDA federal forestry grant (grant overview here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FDt-O2zFohDp2zQegknLlVo789iILW7R/view?usp=sharing)
• Inoculating culled Norway maple logs with shiitake and oyster mushrooms (volunteers may take logs home)
What you’ll learn:
Tree and plant identification, plus proper planting techniques
• How to inoculate invasive Norway maple logs with edible high-value mushrooms
• How this work supports long-term applied forestry in Irvington Woods Park
Details:
Time: 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 12:00–2:00 p.m.
Who: Open to all (children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
Lunch: Pizza for volunteers at noon

Irvington Recreation and Parks Department in partnership with Forever Green Growing Minds presents:
Full STEAM Ahead Week
Where Innovation, Nature, and Creativity Meet!
Monday, August 4th- Friday, August 8th
Students entering K-2nd grade
Experience a week of experiential learning, outdoor exploration, and play! This camp is held at The O’Hara Nature Center, a light-filled and welcoming space with gardens and an outdoor classroom, the perfect environment for curious young minds to develop and explore.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM)will be the focus of each day’s guided projects as well as unstructured tasks aimed at encouraging kids’ creativity and curiosity.
Children will investigate real-world concepts using tools like the Scientific Method and the Engineering Design Process. Through hands-on activities, and nature-based play, they’ll further develop their problem-solving skills, confidence, and creativity.
A balance of stimulating STEAM-based learning with time outdoors to explore, play, and connect with nature and friends.
A nut free snack will be provided, included in the fee. Participants should bring a bagged lunch (nut free) and water bottle. Limited registration.

Camp Fee: Resident- $415/ School District- $455 / Non-Resident- $500
*Breakfast Club add on fee: Resident- $100 / School Dist. $110 / Non-Res. - $125
*Continental breakfast included in fee.
No refunds after 7/1. Refunds prior to that will be reduced by $25 plus 5% of the program fee.
