Remembering September 11
September 11, 2026, marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years later, the events of that day remain deeply etched in our memories.
On this solemn anniversary, we pay tribute to the thousands of people who lost their lives, including residents of Irvington whose lives were taken. We remember their families, friends, and loved ones, and we recognize the lasting impact of their loss on our community.
We also remember the countless first responders, workers, volunteers, residents, and others who were exposed to the aftermath of the attacks. Many later lost their lives to illnesses connected to that exposure, while others continue to live with serious health effects. Their sacrifice and suffering are an enduring part of the legacy of September 11, and they deserve our remembrance and our gratitude.
I am especially grateful to the members of the Irvington Fire Department, the Irvington Police Department and the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps who responded in the aftermath of the attacks. They left their families and their community to answer a call for help during one of the darkest moments in our nation’s history. Their courage, compassion, and willingness to put themselves in harm’s way for others exemplify the very best of our community.
The Village of Irvington will hold its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on September 11 at 8:30 AM at Scenic Hudson Park. I hope you will join us as we come together as a community to remember those we lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and ensure that their stories and legacy are never forgotten.
