Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.

Parachute riggers fabricate and assemble airdrop platforms, cushioning materials, rigging components, rig supplies, equipment, and vehicles for airdrops. They also are responsible for loading and securing supplies in aircraft. Perhaps most importantly, these soldiers test and inspect parachutes, their extraction and release systems, and all the associated parts. These tests are conducted before and after use and at regular intervals to ensure the equipment is always safe for any real-world uses. Interested in learning more? Over the weekend, Future Soldiers from the Dallas Army Recruiting Battalion were recognized by AT&T Red River Showdown. They visited the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium to participate in a Future Soldier Swear in ceremony to honor their commitment to serve our great Nation. Thank you to Colonet Latonya Jordan, commander of the 5th Army Recruiting Brigade, for recognizing these great Future Soldiers!!
