Happy Labor Day!

As a family of former union members, our American Dream has been shaped by labor and the idea that workers must have a right to a safe and equitable workplace. It is how I approached important moments as a supervisor of employees, Mayor of Irvine, and as a continued ally of working families!

I am also grateful to have had great successes when working with labor partners over my career, whether averting any furloughs of city employees or passing our very first prevailing wage ordinance in Irvine. Collaboration is a core belief of mine, and I am always ready to work with our labor partners and ensure their needs are continuously met.

On this Labor Day, I reflect on my own American Dream and stand ready to ensure we extend it to new generations as well!

ICYMI: Last week, I was so happy to begin critical community engagement efforts that Orchard Hills families have been begging for regarding the installation of Class IV Bike Lanes that include concrete barriers voted on by the current council last year.

Upon installation of a concrete barrier for a Class IV bike lane in Orchard Hills, residents have reached out asking for help as this installation near the school has created traffic and many risks to pedestrians, student bikers, and even increasing chances of major car accidents.

I reached out to Orchard Hills residents and welcome anyone to reach out at [email protected] because I am ready to listen to residents and deliver results that improve our community, not make them riskier.

I am honored to receive the endorsement of State Senator Tom Umberg! Having strong partners at the state-level is critical for Irvine to tackle key issues around transportation, education, and our environment. Senator Umberg has been that partner for Irvine and other cities in Orange County, helping us become a leading city in California.

I am also happy to see Senator Umberg continue his service and run to represent us on California's Board of Equalization! Tom will be a phenomenal representative and needed voice on the Board. I am proud to endorse Tom for CA Board of Equalization, District 4!

Did you know Irvine is home to the Chimac Fest happening this weekend?! Come celebrate Korean culture, from its food & b**r, to its music and self-care products at the Great Park Live!

Irvine is the best place for a festival like this, given our community's diversity and connectivity. As one of the first few Korean elected officials nationwide, and the first elected in Irvine, seeing events like these being welcomed to Irvine hold a greater sense of pride and gratitude for me.

I was so happy to join our community in the opening of the Jeffrey Trail Open Space (JOST) Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge that will serve all our residents in countless ways!

Open spaces are a hallmark of our city, defining our community's connectivity, safety, and health. Results-driven planning and community collaboration is critical in projects like these, and I am so happy to see it come to fruition. Please take time to visit the bridge (bridge entry is on Jeffrey Road at Walnut Avenue)!

🚨 Thank you to our own Irvine Police Department & Orange County Firefighters for coming out in the community for the 2026 National Night Out at the Great Park!

It was great connecting with our incredible first responders, whether our community safety officers or firefighters, who keep Irvine families safe every minute of the day. I believe events like National Night Out are important to continue the idea of public safety through community engagement and collaboration.

I enjoyed visiting the different IPD vehicles and talking with officers about new initiatives the department is trying to continue its mission of "In Partnership with Community". I also learned a tremendous amount when touring the OC Firefighters' truck and understand how specific equipment and measures are so necessary to diffuse a situation quickly.

Thank you for all that our first responders do! I was so glad to connect with many of them at Irvine's National Night Out 2026!

🎤 KARAOKE TIME 🎶

I had a great time attending XBN's Karaoke Night Mixer last week, which also included singing a song myself. I want to thank the audience for their warm encouragement as I tried to sing "It's Now or Never", and I also loved hearing many great singers on the mic!

Thank you to XBN for having me and hosting such an important event for our small business community to connect and support each other!
