As we approach the end of AAPI Heritage Month, let us reflect not only on our own unique roots and identity, but also on our willingness to embrace cultures of origin other than our own. How do we approach racial differences in our daily lives? Last Saturday, our CARE team tabled at CCHCLA's Walkathon to share the amazing work and mission of ! We had a great time speaking with everyone there, including all walkers, Herald staff, and those tabling. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and connecting many to the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research!

Hate continues to impact communities across California. In 2025 alone, nearly 1,000 hate acts have been reported, and many more likely go unreported. Data from sheds light on the magnitude and nature of these incidents, highlighting the need for awareness and action.

CA vs Hate is a valuable resource that connects victims of hate acts to crucial support systems, including legal assistance and counseling. Their hotline and website is available for you to report your experience in a multitude of languages at https://www.cavshate.org/. No one has to face hate alone. 🧡

Medical research doesn’t always reflect all communities equally. While AANHPI individuals make up 6.2% of the U.S. population, only around 1% of research focuses on our health needs.

The CARE Registry, led by UCSF, is helping bridge this gap by connecting AANHPI volunteers with researchers. Joining is simple, just complete a 10-minute survey by scanning the QR code in this post or clicking the link in our bio!

Joining the registry doesn’t mean you have to participate in a study. You’ll always have the choice to decide what feels right for you. Please feel free to share this with your community, friends, and family!

At a time when the country is faced with rising anxiety and divisiveness, is there anything we can do? Perhaps we can start by bridging differences within our own small communities.

Cultural empathy isn't just treating everyone equally — it's intentionally learning about people who are different from us. It means taking the time to listen to each person's story so that we don't judge or assume, but instead understand one another and form real connections. 🌎❤️

Let’s practice making cultural empathy an important part of our everyday lives.

At the end of last September, we hosted a listening session for our community to hear everyone’s honest thoughts on our “Spread Love, Stop Hate” program. Hearing everyone’s different experiences with our initiative was incredibly encouraging. We were happy to hear so many stories of personal growth along with amazing suggestions and perspectives that will help us strengthen our program in this coming year. We look forward to continuing our work with fresh insights and a renewed commitment to spread love and stop hate in our community!

Last Saturday (Nov 8), we held our annual community serve day GLOW OC! Together, we packed 12 gift bags full of all the items needed for a festive Christmas dinner for families at , including holiday cutlery, plates, napkins, and centerpieces. We also crafted many beautiful bookmarks, all made with care and love. Before the event came to a close, we offered a prayer of blessing to the mothers and children at the shelter, hoping they will know that we love because God first loved us. 💖

A special thank you to our students from YMM who joined our serve day! We also want to highlight Tina and her exceptional commitment to service – she showed up to help even when it was her birthday!

Asian Americans are a small portion of the U.S. population, but we actually make up over half of Hepatitis B cases! As a part of our mission to improve community health, we’ve been hosting educational events to raise awareness about Hep B. On 10/23, we presented at a church ESL class, and on 10/29, we visited the Americana Senior Center. 

At both events, we highlighted:
✨Asian Americans are a very high-risk group for the disease
🩵Why hepatitis B is called a silent killer
🌱The importance of screening and vaccination

At Americana Senior Center, we also introduced the CARE Registry, a research database that helps increase Asian representation in medical research.

Together, we can protect the health of ourselves, our families, and our communities by increasing awareness, getting vaccinated, and participating in research. Let’s make tomorrow healthier and brighter for everyone!
