We were proud to participate in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California on Thursday.

The UC Irvine Police Department passed the Flame of Hope to us at Harvard and University. Our team proudly ran about 4 miles to Harvard and Irvine Center Drive, where the torch was passed to the Tustin Police Department.

More than 200 law enforcement agencies across Southern California are raising awareness and support for the incredible athletes of Special Olympics.

The Irvine Police Department is honored to be part of this inspiring tradition and support the Special Olympics movement.

It’s coyote denning season. During this time, coyotes are raising their pups. They tend to stay near dense foliage and quiet areas.

When walking your dog, keep them on a leash and avoid heavily vegetated areas where coyotes may be denning. Coyotes may be defensive if they see another dog approaching their pups. If you encounter a den, keep a safe distance and leave the area.

Help reduce the likelihood of a coyote visit by keeping pet food indoors and securing trash around your home. If you see a coyote in your neighborhood, contact Irvine Animal Services at (949) 724-7092 or [email protected].

- A 95-year-old woman has died after being involved in a collision Today, at 9:12 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a three-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Irvine Center Drive and Valley Oak.

The preliminary investigation determined the driver was driving their Toyota Rav-4 westbound on Irvine Center Drive towards Valley Oak. She entered the intersection when a red light was showing in her direction of travel.

A Dodge Ram and a Tesla 3 Series were traveling northbound on Valley Oak into the intersection of Irvine Center Drive on a green traffic signal. The Rav-4 and the Dodge collided in the intersection. The impact caused the Dodge to travel toward the Tesla, traveling to the left of the Dodge, and the two vehicles collided.

OCFA responded and assisted the parties involved. The driver of the Rav-4 was injured and transported to the hospital. This afternoon, the Orange County Sheriff’s Coroner notified IPD that the woman had died at the hospital. The driver’s name will not be released until the family is notified.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Detective David Juarez at 949-724-7047. IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the collision.

Last Sunday, an Audi was stolen from a parking garage on Miramonte.
What is that? A felony…

Our detectives found the Audi in the Kohl’s parking lot on Jeffrey. While doing surveillance on the Audi, an off-duty police officer reported two men were suspiciously looking into parked cars in the same parking lot.
What is that? Great police work….

Bashir Mohamud Abdi, 29, of Anaheim, and David Williams, 33, of Midway City, were arrested for burglary, conspiracy, and stealing a vehicle.
What is that? Consequences for committing a crime in Irvine…..

I don’t get it….
What is that? A viral moment of talented NBC reporter Julie Tsirkin caught on live TV.

Porch pirates thought they were making an express getaway… but they forgot our Prime team has eyes in the sky, noses on the ground, and technology working in real time.

With the help of our drone team, K9 officers, and our Real-Time Crime Center, officers quickly tracked down the two suspects involved in multiple package thefts in our community.

During the investigation, the suspects were also found in possession of stolen property, stolen credit cards, and drug paraphernalia. Camren Ashley Crooks, 51, of Huntington Beach, and Ryan Joseph Neal, 43, of Long Beach were arrested and booked into Orange County Jail for multiple felony charges.
