Engineer Highlight!

This past Friday began like a normal day at Estill Springs Elementary, but it ended with a moment their school family will not soon forget. The day was filled with joy as ESE celebrated grandparents with its annual Grandparent Parade. Students were showered with love...and a little candy, too! The candy was safely tucked away in their backpacks as learning continued throughout the day. At dismissal, students were allowed to enjoy a piece of their candy before heading home for the long Labor Day weekend. That's when an ordinary school day suddenly became anything but ordinary.
A second grader in Mrs. Kaylee Combs' classroom began choking on his piece of candy. Without hesitation, Mrs. Combs sprang into action. She quickly recognized what was happening and performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging the candy and saving his life!
Teachers are called upon to do so many things each day. They teach, encourage, protect, comfort, guide, and love the students entrusted to their care. Teachers are heroes every single day...but some days, they remind us just how deep their love grows. We are incredibly thankful for Mrs. Combs' quick thinking, training, and calm response in a frightening moment. Most of all, we are thankful that the student is okay!
Mrs. Kaylee Combs - your Estill County Schools Family is proud of you! Thank you for serving students every single day and for being there when your student needed you most!

Help us build strong roots and safe schools!
Estill County families, we’re asking you to join us in supporting Kentucky Safe Schools Week, September 14–18, by taking the Strong Roots. Safe Schools. Pledge!
The pledge is a simple commitment to help make our schools and community safer by showing kindness, building positive relationships, caring for one another, welcoming everyone with respect, and recognizing actions that make our schools safer.
It only takes a minute to complete, and we would love to see parents, students, staff, and community members across Estill County participate.
Strong Roots. Safe Schools. It takes all of us.
Take the pledge here:

After you complete it, share this post and encourage someone else to take the pledge too!

Learning in Motion at ECMS

We love seeing the unique opportunities available to students at Estill County Middle School! The ECMS Colorguard Class, led by Mrs. Lauren Frazier, gives these talented young ladies the opportunity to develop skills that combine music, movement, coordination, and performance.

Colorguard is about so much more than learning routines! Students are building rhythm and musicality, hand-eye coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, timing, spatial awareness, and dance and movement skills...all while learning to work together as a team!

As they learn new techniques with flags and equipment, they are also developing focus, perseverance, confidence, discipline, and teamwork. It takes concentration to coordinate movement with music while staying in sync with an entire group!

We are proud to offer opportunities like this that allow our students to discover new talents, challenge themselves, and find a place to shine.

The Estill County Schools would like to extend a special thank you to Mercy Health - Marcum and Wallace Hospital for their continued investment in the health and safety of our students and staff. Through funding made possible by a Rural Health Care Coordination Network Program Grant and the Bon Secours Mercy Health Foundation Health Impact Fund, Mercy Health donated three new AEDs, replacement AED pads, and batteries, and first aid kits to our district. These important resources will help ensure our schools are better equipped and prepared to respond when an emergency occurs. Having accessible, reliable emergency management equipment throughout our district is an important part of creating a safe environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
This donation also builds upon a longstanding partnership between Estill County Schools and Mercy Health - Marcum and Wallace Hospital focused on emergency preparedness and education. Over the years, Mercy Health has partnered with our district to provide training opportunities in CPR, basic first aid, and Stop the Bleed, helping equip our school personnel with both the resources and the knowledge and skills to respond when it matters most. We are incredibly grateful for community partners like Mercy Health - Marcum and Wallace Hospital who continue to recognize the needs of our schools and invest in the well-being of our Estill County community.
Thank you, Mercy Health, for helping us keep our schools safe, prepared, and ready to respond!
