Five years ago today, Donald Trump urged his supporters to attack Congress and the Capitol over a proven lie. More than 140 police officers were injured.

Trump then pardoned the attackers.

He betrayed his oath and his country, and we won't ever forget it.

Learn about the new California laws taking effect today (Jan. 1, 2026) that change voting and election administration in the report posted on the County of Orange Registrar of Voters' website at ocvote.gov/election-library.

These new laws include:

Assembly Bill (AB) 5 requires elections officials within 13 days of Election Day to count all ballots with the exception of provisional ballots, challenged ballots, ballots requiring duplication to be read, and eligible ballots received more than four days after Election Day.

AB 16 authorizes elections officials to start processing Vote-By-Mail ballots more than 29 days before Election Day.

AB 287 requires a public agency providing a facility for a polling place or Vote Center to also provide sufficient parking for voters.

AB 827 establishes a universal deadline during regular statewide elections for voters to cure a ballot challenged for a missing or mismatched signature of 5 p.m. on the 22nd day after Election Day.

AB 1072 requires the Secretary of State, in consultation with county elections officials, to develop uniform standards and guidelines for a voter to correct ballot mistakes before the voter casts the ballot.

AB 1392 makes qualified candidates for elected offices confidential voters, unless they opt out. Current elected officials must request confidential voter status.

Senate Bill (SB) 3 requires a Vote-By-Mail return envelope to contain a statement that the elections official is required to compare the voter’s signature with the signatures appearing in the voter’s registration record, which may include the signature appearing on the voter’s driver’s license or state identification card.

SB 851, an urgency bill that took effect on Oct. 1, 2025, required:

- An elections official to certify the results and a governing body to declare the winners as a ministerial and nondiscretionary action

- An elections official served with a federal court action relating to elections to provide written notice to the Secretary of State and the Attorney General within three days

- An elections official, at least 14 days before entering into a settlement, consent decree, or other court-approved agreement with respect to such a federal claim, to provide notice of the settlement, consent decree, or other court-approved agreement to the Secretary of State and the Attorney General

SB 851 also added an agent of a federal law enforcement agency to the definition of a law enforcement officer who is prohibited from possessing a firearm or being stationed in the immediate vicinity of, or posted at, a polling place, Vote Center or a county elections office without a federal court order.

From my ramblings, eight years ago was brought back to light as ramblings on national television played out on Dec 17th 2025.

“All that glitters is not gold.

It’s hard to believe that nearly a year has gone by with our president at the helm. A year of madness, anxiety and fear.

We seemingly started off with the unlikely, yet close relationship with a former adversary and some Russian Oligarchs, while at the same time alienating our old time Nato allies. As a country, we have been living through a threatening stand with yet another authoritarian dictator in North Korea, one also with Nuclear weapons. Then there have been the increased pressure on delicate Middle East relationships and peace alliances.

Domestically, we have witnessed the need to sabotage any and all things that were set up under a previous administration. Changes from things like Health Care, and Communications with our Internet, to Environmental concerns, to our protected National Parks. Then we have neglected care for our citizens in tattered Puerto Rico, or for our fire torn California. For the most bizarre moment, we can’t forget the seemingly alarming alliance to the White Supremacy groups and the president.

Currently, our Society is having a Tax plan shoved down our throats. Yes, carefully these folks in Washington DC are sweetening the bitterness, but yet for us the sweetener will run out. Amazingly the Corporate folks get a locked in deal, overall this unscrupulous deal stinks. The potential consequences are high, with social safety nets being stripped from Society, while we the people get to deal with our ever growing National Debt.

I’m thoroughly tired of a leader, of an administration that does not cherish what America strives for. In a leader living without integrity, honestly, in without caring for our fellow man, in a leader not being able to comprehend what it is to love your neighbor as yourself.

It’s been a long time since I’ve felt sad for the country that I love. Now is one of them.

With faith, I’m praying for an end to the selfish greed, I’m praying for common sense and love to prevail.”
