Our Central Office (CO), in the City of Iroquois had quite the backdrop this weekend. Thanks to our CSR Manager, Andrea, for capturing this great photo!

You may have seen one of these little buildings in your community before and wondered what they are.

In the broadband world, CO stands for Central Office — not a corporate office, but a local network hub. Our COs house the behind-the-scenes equipment that helps deliver internet and phone service to homes, farms, and businesses in the surrounding area.

Valley FiberCom has 17 CO buildings across our service areas in north and central eastern South Dakota, including the COs located at our office buildings. They also serve as a home base for some of our technicians who work with customers in those specific areas.

Think of them as important connection points in our fiber network, helping keep each community connected to the larger Valley FiberCom system. 📶

Be Weather Aware today.

All Modes of Severe Weather Possible This Afternoon and Evening, Including Strong Tornadoes

Storms look to develop between 4-6 pm in south-central South Dakota.
Supercells are expected initially, capable of all severe hazards including large hail up to 2” in diameter, tornadoes, and damaging winds to 70 mph.
A strong tornado cannot be ruled out. An Intensity Level 1 (CIG1) area was added by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), which indicates the reasonable max strength of a tornado is an EF-2.

Storms will then develop into a line as they move eastward, transitioning to mainly a 70 mph wind threat, though brief spin-up tornadoes are possible along the leading edge of the line.
This severe threat will continue through about 10pm-Midnight, weakening as it moves in northwest Iowa later tonight.

Severe weather remains possible Thursday and Friday. More details on these threats in the next packet.
