Tomorrow, Tuesday September 15th, the City of Ironwood will be shutting down the Lake St. and Ayer St. intersection for ONE DAY while our Contractor repaves this intersection. The following map will be the detour route that is set up for this one-day shutdown. Thank you in advance for using the designated detour route while this work is being completed.

We’ve had a lot of people asking what’s going on near Beacon Ambulance. When we told them we can build a new garage, they all share our same excitement we do at our office. Congrats to the Beacon family the building will look great

This new facility is an investment in the future of our community and, most importantly, in the dedicated EMS professionals who are there when we need them most.

Every step of progress brings us closer to a station that will better support our crews, strengthen our emergency response capabilities, and help us continue providing high-quality care to our community for years to come.

Yesterday was an exciting day!

Northern Michigan University’s Regional Police Academy held graduation for its most recent group, Class 08-26.

Of those graduates, Ironwood Public Safety’s (IPSD) newest Public Safety Officer, Zachary Smith, and Gogebic County Sheriffs Deputy Richard Moscone graduated.

IPSD hired Zachary in March 2026. For the first two months of his employment, he worked to obtain his fire certifications (FF1 & FF2); after that, he attended NMU’s Regional Police Academy.

Now that Zachary and Richard have graduated from the police academy, they will start their Field Training Programs at their departments.

IPSD we would like to thank Zachary, for all of his hard work, dedication, and the sacrifices he and his family have made over the past 6 months as he studied and trained to serve our community.

A sincere thank you to the Ironwood Public Safety Department for welcoming our Healthcare Heroes students during this year's Summer Youth Programs!

Students had the opportunity to explore emergency equipment, watch demonstrations, and learn firsthand about careers in public safety from the professionals who serve our community every day. Experiences like these help students connect classroom learning with real-world career opportunities and inspire the next generation of healthcare and emergency service professionals.

We truly appreciate your partnership and your investment in our youth.

Summer Youth Programs are proudly brought to the community through a partnership between Gogebic Community College, the Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD (GOISD), and TRIO 906.

The week of June 8th, contractors for the City of Ironwood will be performing water line work in the downtown of Ironwood. This will require a two-block detour as shown on the attached map. The Contractor will be coordinating with surrounding businesses to keep as much parking open as possible and to limit disruptions to customers and business owners. The detour is expected to be in place for Monday through Friday.

Also, as pipe installation is nearing completion on Ridge Street, Jake’s Excavating will begin street removal on East Arch Street (west of Lowell Street) next week. The digging of mainline water and sewer pipes is planned to begin on June15th.

The project will NOT be performing any further work east of Lowell Street on East Arch Street as that section of road is not in the project scope of work. The recent work in this East Arch Street area was performed by Xcel Energy due to their need to replace the gas lines.
