🏗️ Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. was invited to participate in Auburn University’s 2026 Intensive Economic Development Training Course, joining a panel discussion on The Role of Local Elected Officials in Economic Development.

Joining him on the panel were Jim Byard, founder of Byard Associates and former Mayor of Prattville; Dr. Hollie C. Cost, Assistant Vice President for Auburn University Outreach and former Mayor of Montevallo; and Collin Daly, Limestone County Commissioner and President of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama.

The conversation explored the important role elected officials play in attracting investment, building relationships, navigating economic development projects and creating long-term strategies for their communities. It was a great opportunity to share Irondale’s story and the work underway to continue positioning our city for growth.

🥫Team Irondale rolled up their sleeves at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, sorting and packing 2,500 pounds of food and assembling 465 boxes — enough to help feed 690 families!

Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. joined the Parnell family and the Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church-Irondale family to officially dedicate 24th Street South in honor of Rev. James Phillip Parnell, Sr.

Recognized earlier this year as one of Irondale’s “Forgotten Architects” during Black History Month, Rev. Parnell was a pastor, educator, and community leader whose contributions helped shape the City of Irondale and paved the way for generations to come.

Now, his name and legacy will forever be etched in the landscape of our community! 🕊️

🔥🏆 Congratulations are in order for the Irondale Fire Department… Members of IFD recently attended the 2026 Alabama Fire & Life Safety Summit at the Alabama Fire College, where the department was honored to receive the 2026 Trailblazer Department for Fire & Life Safety Award!

This new award recognizes departments that leverage the collective strengths of their people, programs, and community partnerships to advance fire prevention and community risk reduction. The honor came after IFD and members of its team received multiple nominations across several award categories:

🔥 Capt. David Brasher — Fire & Life Safety Educator of the Year
🔥 Irondale Fire Department — Community Impact Award
🔥 Fire Chief Josh McDaniel — Chief Advocate for Prevention Award

Rather than recognizing just one person or program, the Trailblazer Award was created to reflect the collective work happening throughout IFD and the department’s commitment to leverage education, outreach, and meaningful community connections to make Irondale safer.

Chief McDaniel was joined at the summit by Capt. Brasher, Capt. Charles Holliday, and Lt. David Salter. Capt. Brasher also served as a presenter, sharing strategies for building stronger relationships between fire departments and Latino communities.

Congratulations to the Irondale Fire Department on this well-deserved recognition! 🚒👏

What a beautiful evening as we crowned four new titleholders who will represent the City of Irondale at Miss Alabama in 2027 and serve our community throughout the year at City events and through their own community service initiatives!

👑 Miss Irondale’s Teen — Kate Feller Community Service Initiative: Drive to Read: Moving Literacy Forward Talent: Contemporary ballet en pointe

👑 Miss Ruffner Mountain’s Teen — Charis McHenry Community Service Initiative: Life Without Limits: Advocating for Children and Adults Living with Cerebral Palsy Talent: Lyrical dance en pointe

We also extend a very special thank you to our outgoing titleholders — Miss Irondale Sarah Claire Hults, Miss Ruffner Mountain Belle Casey, Miss Irondale’s Teen Ella Birdsong, and Miss Ruffner Mountain’s Teen Graham Glaze. From singing the National Anthem at Opening Day at Ruffner Park to helping us light Irondale’s first-ever menorah, these young women have shone brightly while representing our city.

Thank you to Miss Alabama Ruby Tilghman for serving as the emcee for this year’s pageant, and to Pageant Director Gina Vines and her entire team for once again producing a wonderful evening.

We are also proud to invest in the futures of these outstanding young women. Each Miss titleholder receives a $5,000 scholarship toward her education, while each Teen titleholder receives a $1,000 scholarship.

We look forward to cheering these ladies on throughout the year and as they represent Irondale on the Miss Alabama stage in 2027!

Yesterday, Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. and Councilor John W London joined the Parnell family and the Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church-Irondale family to officially unveil and dedicate a portion of 24th Street South in honor of the late Reverend James Phillip Parnell, Sr. ❤️

Rev. Parnell devoted an incredible 59 years, from 1950 to 2009, to serving as pastor of Mount Hebron, home to the oldest African American congregation in the City of Irondale. His impact extended far beyond the pulpit. He was a Christian evangelist and educator, civil rights and community activist, and a trusted leader who ministered to generations of families in the Irondale community.

Earlier this year, Mayor Stewart recognized Rev. Parnell as a “Forgotten Architect of Black History,” honoring him as a Faith Leader & Community Shepherd whose decades of service helped shape Irondale and its people.

We are proud to make that recognition a permanent part of our city’s landscape and ensure Rev. Parnell’s legacy is remembered by generations to come.
