Yesterday we welcomed the students from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and School to our station for fire prevention week. We also practiced their off site evacuation and re-unification plan. Thank you to all our members who were able to make this possible and educate our youth on fire safety.

This Fire Prevention Week, take a few minutes to make your home safer:
🔥 Keep anything that can burn away from heat sources
🔋 Charge lithium-ion batteries safely and stop using damaged batteries or chargers
🚨 Test smoke alarms and replace them when needed
🏠 Have a home escape plan—and practice it with everyone in your household
🚪 Close Before You Doze—a closed door can help slow the spread of fire, heat, and smoke
A few minutes of prevention today can make a major difference when seconds count.
Prevent. Plan. Practice.

We’ve recently realized that many people in our communities may not be familiar with how the Iron Ridge Fire Department is organized, funded, and operated. Our department has a unique structure that is different from many traditional municipal fire departments, and we want the communities we serve to better understand who we are and how we work.

The Iron Ridge Fire Department has proudly served as a private, volunteer fire department since 1888 and was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1993.

Although our station is located in the Village of Iron Ridge and we are proud to call Iron Ridge home, IRFD is not owned or operated by the Village. We are an independent nonprofit fire department that partners with the Village of Iron Ridge and the Towns of Hubbard, Herman, and Rubicon through service agreements to provide Fire & EMS protection across approximately 46 square miles.
Each of these communities plays an important and vital role in supporting IRFD and our ability to provide emergency services.

Our connection to these communities goes well beyond emergency response. Our members live, work, volunteer, attend events, provide public education, support community activities, and build relationships throughout the area we protect. We want residents in all four municipalities to recognize that IRFD is their fire department.

The graphic below provides a quick look at who we are, who we serve, how we're organized, and how our department is funded.

Our goal in sharing this information isn't simply to explain our organizational structure. We want to strengthen the connection between IRFD and the communities we serve and provide a better understanding of how our department operates.

We are incredibly proud of our history in Iron Ridge and equally proud of the partnerships and relationships that allow us to serve the Village of Iron Ridge, Town of Hubbard, Town of Herman, and Town of Rubicon.

One Department. Four Communities. Neighbors protecting neighbors since 1888.
