The Center for Advanced Technical Studies (The Center) is opening their doors to the community and hosting an Open House Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. located at 916 Mt. Vernon Church Road in Chapin.

The Center serves grades 9-12 throughout the district and offers a wide variety of specialized courses in 17 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Programs include:

During the event all stakeholders will be able to tour the entire school. This will allow parents, students, and community members the opportunity to see the classrooms and labs. Teachers and current students will be available to answer questions and discuss curriculum.

"This event opens the doors to the public and district families to showcase the many college and career focused opportunities available to our students in School District Five,” School District Five Assistant Director of The Center Roy Frick said. “The incredible work of our CTE instructors at The Center prepares students for the workforce now and provides a rigorous foundation for students pursuing postsecondary studies. We look forward to inviting our community to view the excellence of CTE in School District Five.”

The Miss Okra Strut pageant returns to Irmo this Saturday at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College! ✨

✨ The Miss Okra Strut Pageant returns to Irmo on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St., Irmo)! ✨

​Join us as 90 contestants take the stage to compete for the coveted crown. We are thrilled to welcome WLTX’s Erika Glover as our emcee for the day.

The morning competition kicks off at 10 a.m., with the afternoon competition starting at 3 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door (accepted payment is cash, Venmo, or Paypal).

Come support the contestants and be a part of this beloved community tradition! For those attending, please bring a new stuffed animal for Adaline's Animals, a community service initiative providing stuffed animals to children's homes.

The Irmo Okra Strut is almost here, and it takes a village to put on South Carolina’s favorite end-of-summer festival! We are looking for energetic volunteers, civic organizations, student groups, and community members to help make this year’s event a success.

Whether you need service hours for school, want a project for your organization, or simply love giving back to the Irmo community, we have a spot for you.

Who We Need:
✨ Student Groups & Honor Societies: High school and college clubs needing community service hours.
✨ Civic & Service Clubs: Local clubs and non-profits looking to serve together.

The Town of Irmo and the ColaJazz Foundation want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to make the first show of our series such a success.

Special thanks to the Amos Hoffman Trio for setting the bar high with an incredible opening performance! Seeing neighbors and families gather to enjoy live music right in the heart of our community made for an unforgettable evening.

Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 following the American labor movement. It was created to honor the strength, contributions, and achievements of workers who built our nation and continue to keep communities like ours thriving every single day.

🗓️ Holiday Operations Reminders:
