We are proud to be a part of the “aRe yoU OK?” (R U OK) Initiative, a collaborative effort between The Haven SC, the West Columbia Police Department, the Lexington Police Department and the Irmo Police Department.

The initiatiave seeks to take a proactive approach to ensuring officers feel supported both on and off duty. As part of this initiative, the department has implemented “R U OK” window clings in every patrol vehicle, serving as a simple but powerful reminder that checking in on one another matters.

Chief Bobby Dale, alongside regional law enforcement leaders, recently participated in a series of video messages designed to spark conversation and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health in policing.

“This initiative is about creating a culture where it is not only acceptable, but encouraged, to ask for help,” said Chief Dale. “Our officers face unique challenges every day, and it is our responsibility as leaders to ensure they know they are not facing those challenges alone.”

The “aRe yoU OK?” campaign emphasizes connection, awareness, and early intervention. By normalizing conversations around mental health and equipping officers with visible reminders and resources, the Irmo PD aims to foster an environment where wellness is a priority.

This effort reflects a broader commitment among Midlands law enforcement leaders to prioritize officer wellness, strengthen peer support, and lead by example. Community members are encouraged to follow the Irmo Police Department on Facebook to learn more about the initiative.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: TARGETING FAMILIES AFTER ARRESTS 🚨

We have taken reports involving recently arrested individuals from the Lexington County Detention Center and the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Across the country—and now impacting our area—scammers are impersonating law enforcement and targeting families within minutes or hours of an arrest.

Here’s how they’re doing it:
• Using public websites that list recent bookings
• Conducting quick online searches to find family members and associates
• Calling those individuals while emotions are high and information is limited
• Calls are placed from unknown numbers

They will:
• Pretend to be deputies, sergeants, jail staff, court administration or pretrial specialists
• Claim money is needed immediately for:
– Bail or bond
– Ankle monitors
– Diversion or pretrial programs
– “Fees” to avoid additional charges or jail time

They often demand payment through:
• Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, or PayPal
• Gift cards or prepaid cards
• Wire transfers or cryptocurrency

⚠️ Know this:
Law enforcement will NEVER call you and demand immediate payment over the phone or through apps, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.

These scammers rely on fear, confusion, and urgency to get you to act fast.

Protect yourself and your family:
• Do NOT send money or provide personal information
• Hang up immediately and call your local law enforcement agency
• Verify directly with the detention center using a trusted number
• Take a moment—don’t let anyone rush you
• Report suspicious calls

We understand these situations are stressful, but slowing down and verifying information can prevent you from becoming a victim.

Stay alert, Irmo.
