If screwworm infestation is suspected:
1. Contact authorities.
Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) for livestock and pets: 800-550-8242
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for wildlife: 512-389-4505

2. Notify the animals’ private veterinarian.

3. Do not delay reporting. Early detection limits spread and minimizes long-term consequences.

4. Follow the instructions of the veterinarian or animal health professional on next steps.

New World screwworm is NOT a food safety issue.

It is, however, a serious animal health threat that requires vigilance. Check livestock and wildlife regularly, monitor wounds closely and report suspicious cases immediately.

Ranchers are our first line of defense. Early detection and rapid response are critical.

Cotton Planting in Wichita County and the Rolling Red Plains has been progressing well. Recent rains have delayed planting but should kick back off soon. Lets all work hard and pray for a great cotton year!
