‼️⚠️ STOP! Don't become their next victim. Learn to Spot the Scam!

Scammers are getting bolder - and they're targeting anyone who will give them attention. Scammers will:

🛑Pretend to be law enforcement
🛑Tell you there's a warrant for your arrest, or say you owe fines for missing jury duty.
🛑Tug at your heartstrings through fake online relationships
🛑Try to manipulate you with fear, pressure, and intimidation.
🛑Tell you that you've won a prize - but you need to send money or gift cards first.

Don't fall for it!

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and other legitimate law enforcement agencies, will NEVER call you demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest. We will NEVER ask you to pay with gift cards, wire transfers, or cash apps.

If something feels off - it probably is. Call the Joint Emergency Communications Center non-emergency line at (319) 356-6800 to verify unusual calls or solicitations.

Today we recognize Gun Violence Awareness Day - a moment to recommit to the safety of every person in our county.

Gun violence is not a problem any one person or agency can solve. It takes all of us - residents, families, educators, community leaders and organizations - working side by side toward a shared vision: a community where everyone feels safe.

There is a role for each of us to play - Speak up. Get involved. Check on your neighbors. Engage in community programs. We are here - not just as a law enforcement agency, but as members of this community who are ready to work alongside you.

When you see one of these, check your speed! ✅

You may have noticed our speed trailer currently on Dubuque St NE between Iowa City and North Liberty - that's a winding road with curves and hills, which makes it extra important to check the number on your dashboard.👀

Our speed trailers are a reminder to follow the speed limit, but we also use them to keep you safe and aware of your surroundings. Speed limits can change from one section of a road to another, so it's important to pay attention as you go. Please slow down, drive safely, and check your speed! ⚠️
