Don’t settle for medi-okra produce! Come check out the Iowa City Farmers’ Market for all the fresh produce you need. This week we are highlighting vendors that offer fresh okra, including Baladna Farm LLC and Squier Squash & Donnelly Farms.
Okra are rich in vitamins C and K1, and support heart and digestive health. They are also delicious roasted, pan-fried, or pickled.

What to do with “Too Much” is our specialty. We rescued six pallets of cantaloupe from a local farmer. After distributing five to our food access partners, we organized with another partner to give a boost to communities that may need it. The cantaloupe, along with some other produce from our friends at Grow Johnson County, was distributed to families in a low income neighborhood.

Lindsay’s last glean with us was out at Kroul Farms picking pears. She and Max brought back 21 pounds of fruit that we distributed among our neighbors the very next day!

Julie Johnston-Walter and Don Walter are helping build the future of food access with their planned giving this Make A Will Month.
"I like to think of us as investor philanthropists. We give in three ways: our annual gift, a percentage of funds set aside exclusively for Table to Table in our financial plan, and a bequest in our will. This way, our investment for my favorite charity is already paying off."

This week, we are highlighting vendors that offer fresh squash, including Betty Lopata’s Fresh Produce, Nam and Anna's Garden, Snapper City Gardens, Squier Squash & Donnelly Farms, and Wasson Produce.
Fun Fact! Squash are actually classified as fruits due to them growing flowers and containing seeds. We just wouldn’t recommend adding them to your morning smoothie. Squash are also one of the oldest foods in North America. They make a great side or main dish. Come check them out at the market this weekend.

In season now, the Iowa City Farmers Market has several vendors that offer fresh radishes, including Betty Lopata’s Fresh Produce, Buffalo Ridge Orchard, and Snapper City Gardens.
Did you know that radishes are high in vitamin C and support the immune system? They are also a great source on soluble and insoluble fiber. Additionally, they are amazing on salads or simply roasted. Come check out what these vendors have to offer this weekend!
