The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both women and men may belong. The purposes of the Order of the Eastern Star include charity, education, fraternal support and scientific research. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all those in Eastern Star and it is a privilege to help another member when we can. Eastern Star is a social group

with members who have spiritual values. However, Eastern Star is NOT a religion. It offers character-building lessons through the Order's ritualistic work. A fraternal bond exists between its members. The Order of the Eastern Star is open to all faiths, except no faith. Locally, Jessamine Chapter has approximately 200 members. The chapter supports many local organizations including the Crisis Center, Salvation Army and the Joan Buxton Children's School Fund. Each year, Jessamine Chapter awards approximately $1,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors of Iowa City West and City High Schools.

On behalf of Iowa City Masonic Lodge #4, Jessamine Chapter happily served lunch today for those attending the Grand Master's One Day Class in Iowa City. Based on comments, it would appear that about 80 Brothers and Candidates went back upstairs after a delicious meal! Many thanks to the Sisters who provided desserts for the meal. And many thanks to Worthy Matron Erin McCroskey & Sister Denise Gehling for their hard work in organizing the meal.
