The 1105 Project

The 1105 Project Raising money for renovations at 1105 S. Gilbert Ct. for shared use by 4 nonprofits addressing hunger, domestic violence, mental illness, & other crises.

Gifts to support this collaborative project will provide a new home for the Free Lunch Program (which has to leave it's current downtown Iowa City location by the end of the year), provide meeting space for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, provide public "storefront" where victims can reach out to the Domestic Violence Intervention Project, and relieve overcrowding at the Crisis Center nex

t door. By sharing this space (sold to the project for $1 by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors!), the four agencies can reduce expenses and expand programming to reach more clients, including those of the other agencies in the project.

We want to finish up some landscaping at the 1105 Project for as cheaply as possible, and are wondering if anyone would have large rocks, at least 20 - 24" in diameter, that could be donated? We need about 18 - 20 and don't necessarily need them to match as they'll be placed in several locations. Please contact Becci at [email protected] if you can help. And please share this post!

The Daily Iowan has an awesome story about the huge impact The 1105 Project has had in its first year. All four agencies are stronger than ever and excited to be working together.

The 1105 Project opened one year ago, and since then, the partnership has been very successful at increasing user frequency, saving the organizations’ time and, most importantly, money, its directors say.

Participating restaurants will donate a portion of sales today to The Crisis Center.
