Another busy day for local fire departments yesterday. Inwood fire and EMS crews were called out to the Inwood Marine Terminal at 1 Sheridan Blvd. A worker fell off a platform near the dock with serious injuries. Along with police medics the crew of Squad 318 packaged the aided in a stokes basket and removed him to Ambulance 319. From there he was transferred to awaiting NCPD Helicopter for transport to a trauma center.
After a few other EMS runs, car accidents and alarms a phone alarm for a fire came in. Tower Ladder 313 responded mutual aid to LCFD on Broadway. LCFD firefighters had a shed fire next to a house. The crews knocked the fire rapidly preventing any extension.

Last night Inwood firefighters manning Tower Ladder 313 went mutual aid to Hewlett. HBFD command had a propane bbq fire that extended to the house. Crews operated for approximately 45 minutes and one Inwood firefighter was transported with minor injuries.

Congrats to the Inwood FD “Mud Ducks” racing team. The team with a few neighbors from Meadowmere Park competed in the 4th Battalion Drill tonight. The Mud Ducks tied the Rockville Centre FD for first place. It was a great time had by all. Thank you to the Rockville Centre and Lakeview FD’s for having us as guests.

Inwood firefighters had two reports of fires in town earlier in the evening, both as a result of unattended cooking. But shortly after 1am, LCFD was alerted for a house fire. Tower Ladder 313 and Engine 314 responded mutual aid to 12 Margaret Avenue in Lawrence. Crews operated for approximately 2 hours. A second alarm was called for relief purposes.

Yesterday afternoon IFD was called out to a reported overturn with entrapment on Burnside Avenue. Initial calls were routed to LCFD as it was close to the border. Luckily an ESU crew from NYPD Truck 9 was passing by. Together the three agencies along with medics from a Hatzolah extricated and treated the injured. No serious injuries were reported.

Busy Sunday for Inwood fire and EMS crews both on land and sea. Tower Ladder 313 responded to a house fire in North Woodmere (Hewlett FD). The crew operated for approximately 90 minutes. Heavy fire occupied a split level home on Prescot Place.

Later on, crews were called out to Sun and Surf beach club for a vessel in distress. Asst Chief Green located a 44’ boat on the sandbar in the surf with kids onboard. Vessels from NCPD, FDNY, LCFD, LBFD and Atlantic Beach Rescue responded to assist and bring the 9 occupants to shore.

Signal 99- Sun And Surf Jetty

Inwood FD received a report of a vessel in distress. Chief Green observed a sailboat in the surf, stuck in a sandbar. Marine 31-13 launched from Silver Point to assist. Crews from LBFD, LCFD and Atlantic Beach Rescue also responded. The IFD boat crew made contact and got a line onto the boat. They were able to run the line out to AB Rescue vessel 3628. All the crews operated together getting the vessel out of danger. Once off the bar, the boat was turned over to NCPD. Great Job by all involved.

Inwood firefighters battled a second working fire in 24 hours. Tower Ladder 313 responded to Long Beach just before 3am. The crew was utilized as a fast truck then deployed to open up and overhaul. Hot and busy afternoon for Inwood firefighters. Approximately 1300 hours Tower Ladder 313 and Squad 318 responded to a working house fire in the Village of Lawrence. LCFD had a fire in the basement of a large private dwelling.

As crews were cleaning tools and rehabilitating an extrication assignment was transmitted at 151 Doughty Blvd. Asst Chief Green arrived to find a single car accident into an occupied building. EMS crews evaluated one and Squad 318 evaluated the structure. The crew of 311 mitigated a spill and units were placed back in service.
