EMS Week 2026 | Health, Wellness & Resilience

Behind every call is a caregiver who needs care too.
During EMS Week 2026, we’re shining a light on something just as important as the lifesaving work, we do every day: the health, wellness, and resilience of EMS professionals.
EMS providers show up—on people’s worst days, in high stress environments, often while carrying unseen physical and emotional weight. To continue providing safe compassionate care to our patients and our community, we must take care of ourselves and each other.
Self-care in EMS isn’t selfish
It means prioritizing sleep, nutrition, hydration, movement, and mental health. It means recognizing stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue early—and asking for help when needed.
Caring for each other matters
Checking in on your partner. Watching for changes in behavior. Creating a culture where it’s okay to say, “I’m not okay.” Peer support saves lives too.
Healthy providers deliver better care
When EMS professionals are supported, rested, and resilient, patients benefit. Wellness and safety go hand‑in‑hand—for providers and the people we serve.
To our EMS family: You matter. Your health matters. Your life matters.
To our community: Thank you for supporting those who answer the call—every hour, every day.
Happy EMS Week 2026

🚒 Congratulations on Your Retirement from the Inwood Fire Department, Mike Knobloch! 🚒

The City of Inwood would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mike on his retirement from the Inwood Fire Department after an incredible 48 years of service.

Mike began serving our community as a firefighter in 1978 and was Fire Chief for 23 years. During his tenure, Mike served out of all four different fire stations the City of Inwood has had over the years.

Pictured here in 1989, from left to right:
Mike Knobloch (Captain), Dick Schemmel (Assistant Chief), and Herb Hage (Chief).

Mike has shared that one of the most difficult moments of his career as a firefighter involved the loss of life. When asked what some of the most memorable moments have been, Mike doesn’t hesitate to say the July 3rd events, which he fondly calls “fun work.”

On behalf of the City of Inwood and our entire community, thank you, Mike, for your decades of dedication, service, and leadership!

👏 Please join us in congratulating Mike and wishing him the very best in his well-earned retirement!
